Again the point is that people are saying that's what decided the game when they were off however Annaghdown lost a valuable player as well and as you say 'best in his position' regardless of the performance of his replacement he's still viewed as the best player for the position. Barry Goldrick, although injured, a Galway minor. Kyle Long, Cillian Walsh, Jamie King all goalies involved in recent minor teams. This isnt a slate Claregalway post but sometimes underage success isnt the be all and end all. Look at Garrymore, Milltown to an extent. Its about being good senior players. Claregalway have to break that ceiling yet. It seems Claregalway have been used to being strong at underage, the main men in the schools team in CBC, but really hasnt translated to senior 'success'. Give it a rest, with the back and forth. Claregalway lost a tight game against a team who are currently at a similar standard. Every club has injuries, lads missing for various reasons. It was a toss of a coin on the day. Neither Claregalway not Annaghdown were strong favourites before the game, so the outcome wasn't a surprise. I would like to see Cillian McDaid finish out his playing career with Dunkellin Gaels. He would obviously need to do his homework and see are the club going to last but it would be great for the club. Since it's based on players within a specific year generally. If you have more players ar the right age, then naturally you'll be stronger. A lot of smaller clubs have huge overlap between teams across age groups. They'll have players a year or two younger playing at many grades. That doesn't mean those players are any worse. They're just younger and on average, less physically developed. That goes out the window when the players become adults. Of course having bigger numbers does also help at adult level, as you're more than likely going to have more talented players in a bigger playing pool. But it's not that simple. Not really sure why some posters keep on about the underage success of Claregalway I might be wrong but I think they have won just 2 minor titles and 1 under 19 im open to correction the stsnd out club at underage in Galway over last 5/6 years is Oranmore and it be great if they could get up 2 senior level and I was not in any way having a pop at Claregalway for what they have won but the way some posters be going on u woukd think that they are a club who are wasting talent in fairness they have a senior team prib top 6 and also have an intermediate team so it's definitely something yo be proud of , Kickitout (Galway) - Posts: 1178 - 29/09/2026 16:40:52 2695538 Link
