One of Oranmores best players went off after 5 mins.He was a massive loss. There is never very much between these teams with each of them winning against each other over the last few years.

Genuine question. What experience does he have to take the position?

About the same experience Joyce had. We can't repeat the same mistake

What mistake? You could appoint the most experienced option available and not do as well as Joyce has done which was winning 4 Connacht titles and reaching two All-Ireland finals losing by the finest of margins.

Excellent post. As far as I am concerned, PJ was a big winner. He put Galway football up where it belongs. He built on the great work done by kevin Walsh before him. Players can take some of the heat for not delivering on big occasions also. Thank you PJ Gaillimh Abu suckvalleypaddy (Galway) - Posts: 1820 - 12/09/2026 18:24:28 2693624 Link 0 |

I have to laugh when I hear people talking about four Connacht titles as if it's some massive achievement. In reality, there are only really three teams capable of regularly winning a Connacht title, Galway, Mayo and Roscommon. Sligo might win one every 20 or 25 years, and Leitrim maybe once every 50 years. And there's no point including New York or London, let's be honest. So realistically, most years it's a competition between three teams, meaning you're really only competing against two others for a Connacht title. I wouldn't be getting too carried away with four Connacht titles as some huge achievement.

As an outsider I always felt that PJ waited around for too long on the fitness of Comer and Walsh. They always seemed to be in and out of the team due to injury and that Galway team never really got momentum because of this. While they are both top class players you needed these lads playing most of the league and all of the championship in order to get momentum and Galway just didnt get that momentum going. Its unfortunate as there was an AI in that team but injury deprived yee of the two best players and both were scoring forwards. Hindsight is a great thing though and I can see why PJ wanted them in the team. Hes a gentleman and in my lifetime he was Galways greatest forward. Galway like Kerry are traditional footballing county and potential is always there. Due to the new rules teams are going to unleash young 18 yr old rookies who just go for it.. It wont suit the narrative or the stats men but it won Mayo an AI that nobody saw coming.
