Replying To Doylerwex:  "I know. When the whistle blew it felt like somebody made a mistake and it just couldn't be over.

We were staying in Spanish point in Clare the week after and some auld lad just kept going on about how we blew it and it should have been ours......

Looking at cork and Limerick now it's hard to see the gap closing any time soon.

We just need an absolutely mammoth effort at all levels.

Coaching young lads I'm seeing a huge lack of ambition. They're not even dreaming of winning an all Ireland with Wexford which makes no sense to me."
Suppose that's chicken and egg, they've no real ambition because they haven't seen much in the way of success to encourage any ambition

You go to somewhere like Kilkenny and they've had such success that when they are struggling like they are now, there's huge move to make sure their strong culture doesn't fall apart

But it was a great year for New Hope for sure. The start of many victories against the Empire over the following decade!
Seriously though, some of those players like Chin probably have as good a win/loss ratio against Kilkenny at u21 and Senior over their careers as any Wexford hurlers ever had."
I know. That was my point. It all kicked off in 14.

I would need to look it up but I'd say that group would have the best record of any Wexford team against the old enemy.

The difference is in the 50s Kilkenny were excellent but we were better.

In the 10s Kilkenny were only very good and so were we.

Anyone going to this dinner tomorrow evening?

They won 9 Leinster titles to our 1

That's not what he said and they didn't win 9 in that period. Dublin won one and Galway won 2.

He's talking about those Wexford player's record playing Kilkenny and he's right. They beat them in competition more times than we did in the 50s it just didn't end in titles often enough.

This is the kind of thing I end up doing late on a Saturday night. With a few cans inside me :)

Am taking the example of Conor McDonald rather than Lee Chin, as Mac played in all three of those Leinster U21 campaigns (2013 to 2015) while Chin only played in the first one.

And so, over the years 2013 to 2025, when he would have been involved with Wexford squads against Kilkenny (not saying he played every game, but he'd have been there or thereabouts anyway):

U21: Played 3, won 3, including two Leinster Final victories, which themselves included a 17-point win in the final in 2015
Senior Championship (2014 to 2025): Played 10, won 5, drew 1, lost 4
National League (again, 2014 to 2025): Played 6, won 2, drew 1, lost 3

Overall: Played 19, won 10, drew 2, lost 7

Just out of the ferrycarrig. Was a really lovely night and difficult not to be moved.

George o Connor gave a rousing speech about getting back to the promised land. It was deadly.

How are we going to get back there? Does George know something we don't?

No I don't suppose Gworge knows more than we do. I wasn't in the Ferrycarrig on the night in question but I would say he was been aspirational. In other words, hoping that things will get better than they are at present.George knows the same as we do that it's a long way back and a massive amount of work needs to be put in to achieve the goals necessary to reach the top rung of the ladder.
George is passionate about Wexford hurling and by the sounds of it was speaking positively and like most on here would give our right arm to reach the promised land.
Who knows what will transpire in the years to come but if we remain negative in our thoughts and actions then success will be much further down the road.
The county board, management and coaches and we as a county must row in the same direction. We as supporters can help somewhat by attending our league and championship games and become the 16th man.
It certainly won't be easy and as they say Rome wasn't built in a day.
The beginning of the fightback may start with our new manager. Along with some new players from our u20s and top performers on the club scene. Good coaching is paramout and our psychologist getting the players to believe in themselves that will give us an edge on the pitch.

In fairness to George O'Connor hes doing alot of canvassing and sharing ideas behind the scenes, and was involved with our county u14s last year. Hes pretty active on the ground in trying to improve things.
