Why would Solan attend club games on a Friday evening in Longford and step down on Monday if he had an offer in place and planned to go.
It is clear he had requests to the CB but was refused and then left. Offaly acted fast then and got him appointed. Good young managers are a scarcity. They may have been well down the line in the recruitment process and struggled to get any candidates they were after hence a swift appointment of Solan.
Our county board are on a very tight budget to try and have match funding in place for grants to get the COE off the ground. No match funding will mean no grants and with a small population and reduced fundraising capacity as a result compared to other counties it will be a struggle to finance the COE.

I also believe the level of support the bi-weekly 50/50 draw is getting is appalling across the county. They are struggling to hand out €1k every 2 weeks. If we all are serious about supporting the county and supportig facilities development we should support and ensure it is a large jackpot every time, this in turn will gain traction from outside and get more entries for the chance to win

Replying To Sportrex:  "Senior:
Colmcille to beat Clonguish by 2
Slashers to beat Granard by 4
Abbeylara to beat Mullinalaghta by 2
Ardagh Moydow to beat Ratchline by 3
Killoe to beat Dromard by 7

Intermediate:
Mostrim to beat Cashel by 1
Connollys to beat Gaels by 8
Grattans to beat Ballymahon by 3
Killashee vs Killoe has been postponed"
Ardagh to pip Rathcline and Abbey to beat Mullinalaghta comfortably. The rest of the games mean nothing and so could go either way. Why is the Killashee and Killoe match postponed in the intermediate?

People are already supporting there own club draws too. To say that people need to keep shelling out is totally unfair, members of clubs are just after being forced to spend upwards of €3k per club on car draw tickets, there was a fundraiser dinner in johnstown house there was a race day also. Yes the COE needs support but your ordinary club members are not the people who should be forking out

One of two things happened...

1) He was approached by Offaly and he then asked CB to match or counter that offer and they said no, so he took the Offaly offer.

or...

2) He stepped down after not getting support for whatever he was looking for, and the Offaly offer then came once (and because) he became a free agent.

I have no idea which it is, and nor does anyone else on here. You have to ask why he was sat watching club games in Longford just 48 hours prior to stepping down (and his entire management team stepping down too). Nobody would have noticed or passed any remarks if he wasn't there, so if he had an offer already from Offaly and was in negotiation with CB on staying or going, would he have made the journey to watch local championship? I doubt it. But like everyone else on here, I am guessing and do not know.

The game has been wiped. Both sides already set to face each other in the relegation group phase anyway, a bit silly to call off a championship game over it though

How do we explain Diarmuid and his management team stepping away? Offaly hardly approached him as-well. This is squarely at the feet of certain members of the CB. Ask the players from both codes and they know exactly what went on and are happy to say it as it is also. Stunting the development of the provinces footballers and hurlers for the sake of the training centre is ludicrous. We will have excellent facilities in 10 years time and no teams to take to the field. Imagine sending a county team out to Shroid to train for the championship and expect that to be ok for a standard to set.

Diarmuid had a much better offer in a higher profile county as a coach that he could not turn down for his own career progression. He was done excellent work in the 2 years with Longford hurling. Couldnt blame him for accepting the new role.

And to build on what I said, from what I have heard, multiple members of current panel won't be returning next year, Solan was a massive hit with them and they would have stayed on had he remained but now have no intention.

Two separate situations. I was speaking only on what happened with Solan and how many people were quick to point the gun at the county board.
Shroid pitch is as good as many in the county and well located. How is training there an issue?
Hurling plays second and third fiddle with many you are right but your point about the need to allocate resources towards outside senior management teams at the expense of the badly needed COE is one of the craziest ever brought up here. We have to think long term!

I know Mickey Quinn is a legend in Longford.
Is he a good fit for us in sligo?

Well done to Ardagh Moydow, great to see the club making steps forward again after what feels like years without anything happening at senior.

Mullinalaghta may survive this year, but they are very much heading towards relegation in the coming years, very little coming through, the squad has been the same for what feels like years now, age catching up with a few players and seem to lose more every year.

Interesting times ahead!

Great result for Ardagh Moydow, they really pulled it out of the fire. The real turning point was springing the vereran Gerry Farrell off the bench in the second half. With Gerry in his twilight years dont let the grey head fool you he still has the smarts of a man half his age, he brought energy, excitement and guts to the field last night. Im sure the younger lads are learning a lot and its great he decided to give another year, the hard work is paying off as they have earned their place in the 1/4 finals and more importanly have avoided the relegation battle.

Quarter Finals now known...

Clonguish v Ardagh Moydow
Abbeylara v Slashers
Granard v Killoe
Dromard v Colmcille

I'm sticking with my prediction of Clonguish, only team with 100% win record so far. Fair play to Ardagh Moydow on making it through, though they won't get past Clonguish. Abbey should beat Slashers. Dromard and Colmcille will be a dogfight, and Killoe need to be very wary of Granard. One or two surprises ahead I reckon. Would anyone bet against a Clonguish-Granard final at this point?

Certainly cannot see past Clonguish. They will dominate for years to come now once they get their maiden success. The drive for five will be in their sights

Not a fear of clonguish winning Leinster. Standard in longford is shocking. They have yet to get over the line in Longford yet.

Jaysus lads some of ye are getting way too far ahead of yourselves! Clonguish have nothing won yet, they'll beat Ardagh and will then have two massive mental games to win it. Very easy to say they'll win it but the pressure on them with both the expectation and disappointment of previous years will play on their minds. Nothing guaranteed at all.
