We have it for every other grade and level of football and hurling in the county - male and female. But in our showpiece club championship competition - the men's SFC , your season can be over after just 2 games is not good enough. Full stop. End of Debate."

You can't play Club Championships while County teams are playing.
You can't start Club Championship "2 weeks after last County team exits" as that puts you back to the Club fixtures chaos that led to the CPA and the fix the fixtures campaign.
Until the GAA outlaws the semi professional Boston/Chicago charade you're going to have clubs missing players till well into August."
In Westmeath many clubs play championship games without county/young players gone to America for the summer. Roscommon could start the championship in July and have more group games.

A chara, I am talking about at least four games in the SFC before any knockout phase - be that relegation playoff's or quarter finals. No other county is still doing three games. It's in the dark ages

Was in Lisnamult last night for flattering 6 point win for Boyle. Roscommon Gaels better team 1st half with a deserved half time lead. The Michael Gillooly before the break was game changer and in ten minute period Boyle scored 2-4 without reply. Donie Smith to the fore again and Daire Cregg looked more like himself after an extra two of training. Enda Smith had a late cameo his first appearance for 11 weeks.

Senan Lambe,Rory Carthy good for the Gaels they play North Roscommon next and with players coming back from injury the extra game should be helpful.

Was also in O'Rourke Park this evening and it was for excellent match between Castlerea and Oran.

Castlerea have really improved a lot with the introduction of their back to back county minor winners. They led by 4 at half time and were 8 ahead with 15 minutes to play and full value for that lead, then Oran had scoring patch with some outstanding scores to go one point in front but Adam McDermott got the last say to earn a draw.

Ciaran Lawless,Charlie Carthy,James Fitzpatrick,Kevin Hester,Liam Finneran had some impressive moments but the stand out player on show was the youngest player on the field Darragh Curran and his ceiling is high if he can avoid injuries in the years ahead.

Lastly well done to Elphin most myself included didn't see them avoiding a relegation play off.

The fact Clann and Faithleachs two of last year's semi Finalists are now in a relegation play off highlights once more that our senior championship in among the most competitive in the country

I'd say most Counties are still going with Groups of 4.
Leitrim, Cavan and Donegal seem to have 4 or 5 rounds drawn randomly and make a League table from the results.
I think Monaghan have 2 groups of 5.

Some of us are pushing to go back to 3 groups of 4 instead of 2 groups of 6. Our own club 3 years ago made the Intermediate final in hurling and Intermediate semifinal in football. The lads had 15 championship games in 16 weeks. Its too many.

Westmeath, Sligo, Donegal, Leitrim, Cavan, Offaly, Monaghan all have 4 or 5 games.Mayo and Galway do have Groups of 4 (3 games) but crucially they have more groups so you don't enter into a one off relegation match after just 2 games which is what we have. So in Mayo/Galway you play at least 4 games before you get to that point. I think it is farcical that after playing and losing just two games you can be put into a one off relegation play off. On top of that I believe the token gesture of letting regional amalgamations into the knock out phase is poor form.

I took the short journey to Elphin match and they certainly proved me wrong too. A powerful performance from them when everyone including me wrote them off. So it's Faithleachs, Clann and Western Gaels or Glaveys for relegation. On your point about it being competitive , yes it is competitive for the ten teams outside of Brigids and Pearses. My comment from a few weeks back still stands. Yes Roscommon is higher quality but it is the least competitive of the county SFC that I go to in terms of likely winners

In terms of the club championship so far in Roscommon, is there any player showing form that would bring him into contention for the senior county team next season who hasn't featured before for the seniors.

If things are so non competitive as you claim for Brigids then why haven't they retained the county title for a decade and why didn't they top their group last year?

Same question for Pearses. Before they brought Brigids to a replay last year they needed extra time to overcome Boyle,Oran and this weekend lost to Clann something that should happen if so far ahead of the other ten teams?

That comment you are standing by is underestimating the competitiveness of your county championship and view clouded on wanting more group games it appears.

That generally waters down a championship. Tyrone for example is regarded as the most competitive in the country and they have a straight knock out format. They treat their league football more serious than most counties something than should be looked at for other counties Roscommon included than thinking added more group games to the championship is the way forward.

In Tyrone you only get relegated from the SFC by your league performance which is after a lot of games. And as you rightly point out Tyrone place a strong reliance on the league where county players do play in. Unlike in Roscommon where they play very few or none. My main gripe is two games is insufficient to be put into a straight relegation shoot out. No other county among the 32 does that. The competitive nature of our championship is a completely different issue and it will vary from year to year. There is very little that can be done for that other than clubs have to step up to the levels that Brigids and Pearses are at.

I see Brigids Senior All-Ireland Finalists and Strokestown who played Intermediate football last year are level 0-10 each at half. Brigids given their qualities should go on to win but this debate that Roscommon senior club football isn't as competitive as some of counties is rather silly looking and a bit tedious.

Tyrone might have a "competitive" domestic Championship with a lot of teams of reasonably equal standard.
Their very few successes in Ulster and AI Club Championships suggests it's not of a very high standard.

Dead rubber game. Realistically Brigid's will dismantle them if it was a knockout game.
