Imagine Killucan delegated getting this brutal new championship format in to benefit themselves to make the playoffs and still not being able to do so. Should campaign that 4 teams from section B get in next year, joke-shop.
Both Castledaly and Multy in Inter A have two games left and basically nothing to play for, i'm sure they're are other teams in the same boat too.

Structure is terrible but it's not why Castledaly and Multyfarnham have zero points; the gap is widening at intermediate. The structure is also not the reason Caulry have 0.

So while I'll be the first to say it's a poor format it's definitely leaves a lot on the line for the top 4 teams in each group going into the last two games.

There's a difference between qualifying for knockout stages and staying in Section A, Caulry's ambition at this stage is to avoid demotion to Section B, that's still achievable despite other posters claiming it's not.

In old system how would it be different for Castledaly and Multy? Both sides have lost three successive championship matches, comprehensively in five of the six games. What system would suit them?

Was this Killucan's proposal? Did they not propose the previous format also? How do they have so much pull??

Multy did not lose comprehensively yesterday, in fact they were unlucky to lose against arguably the best Inter side. It was a great game, if only you were there.

Who said they lost comprehensively? Castledaly and Multy have lost five out of six games comprehensively, yesterday was the exception. Multy deserved to win but Brian Kavanagh showed class in converting late free, Ronan Wallace and Kavanagh gave exhibitions of scoring, Wallace prob kicked 5 or 6 two pointers, Young Thornton showed well too, Shandonagh still championship favourites but need Daniel Scahill back

Replying To BadgerDog:  "Predictions for this weekend
Senior
Section A
The downs v Mullingar Shamrocks: Would expect the downs to win this but it should be a tight game. Loughlin to be the difference.
Kinnegad v Caulry: Only one winner here, kinnegad should win this with a bit to spare, they have been impressive so far and caulry struggling.
St Lomans v Garrycastle: Would expect lomans to register their first win of the campaign.
Garrycastle and Caulry a bit off the top 4 in this group and either the downs, lomans, kinnegad or shamrocks are going to be unlucky not to qualify for the knockouts.
Section B:
Tubberclair v Killucan: Tubberclair the form team in section B with maximum points and have been playing a nice brand of football. Killucan will be a different proposition to what they have played so far and will try and make it a physical contest. I think Tubberclair should have too much though and will have one foot in the knockout stages with a win here.
Moate v Tang: Moate showed improvement in their last game and should do enough to win this.
Athlone v Tpass: If Tpass have the same absentees as last game then there will only be one winner in this. Think Athlone should do enough even if Tpass have players returning.
Tubberclair setting the pace in this group and with Whittaker returning soon they will only get stronger. After them it is fairly tight and arguably any of the other 5 teams could claim the other two qualifying spots.
Intermediate
Section A
Castledaly v St Malachys: Malachys by however much they want. Castledaly extremely poor and lucky they are in Section A as can't be relegated.
Shandonagh v Multyfarnham: Haven't seen Multy play this year but they seem to be competitive in first half of games then fall off in the second half. If the form lines are anything to go by then Shandonagh should win comfortably.
Miltownpass v Miltown: The game of the weekend in the Intermediate, should be a great battle. Very hard game to call and no result would be a surprise but I think the men from Rathconrath might just about do enough. Conor Dillon and Brandon Kelly will be a great duel if it materializes.
Similar to the Senior Section A, one of Shandonagh, Mpass, Miltown and Malachys are going to be left disappointed to miss out on qualification.
Section B
St Marys v Maryland: Maryland still heavily reliant on Kieran Martin and Callum McCormack and I think St Marys have better footballers across the field. Would expect their fitness and speed to be too much for Maryland.
Rosemount v Ballinagore: Rosemount should win this easily to move a step closer to qualifying.
Ballymore v Castletown: Ballymore going well with 2 out of 2 and will be expecting to overcome Castletown.
Overall Rosemount, Ballymore and St Marys looking like the three most likely to qualify. Maryland and Castletown struggling and that could potentially be a relegation play off when the sides meet in round 5."
5 out of 6 right in the senior and 5 out of 6 in intermediate.
Got to take in 4 games this weekend, the 3 Senior Section A games and one Senior Section B game.
Moate v Tang: Moate grinded out the win in the end, they were prominent and pulled away in the last ten minutes. Tang will have regrets as they were a point up with ten left. They do seem to lack depth as they brought on two players at half time who were clearly injured. One had the quad strapped up and was taking painkillers on the sideline and the other had his knee heavily strapped. They also had a couple of lads who were limping near the end. They will need a clean bill of health as they face into a huge game with tubberclair.
Athlone got their win over Tpass and Tpass are another team struggling as they seem to be lacking depth and have had to use a lot of their junior players in the last 2 games.
Tubberclair have secured their quarter final place and no one will want to meet them in the kncockouts.
The Downs Shamrocks looked like men against boys. Shamrocks got a harsh lesson and at the minute the Downs are the standout team in Westmeath. They have so much running power and are really well conditioned. They will get stronger as the campaign goes on as they welcome back their key men. Shamrocks have a good young side but I do think this year will be too soon for them. Ormsby coming off was a loss and Corroon injured too so they will want these guys back for the next game.
Caulry v Kinnegad: Went as expected. Caulry looked toothless up front and without Senan and McCormack it is hard to know where the scores will come from. They play the Downs and Lomans in their next two games and it looks inevitable they will go down to Section B. Tadhg Baker looked to be struggling throughout the game with injury and eventually hobbled off. Kinnegad weren't majorly impressive but did what they had to do.
Lomans v Garrycastle: Strange enough game really. Gcastle gifted Lomans 2-2 through silly mistakes and did very well to work their way back into the game and get a draw. Lomans looked off colour and missed several scoring chances. They were quite sloppy in general play too. They will argue they are unbeaten but they face into a massive game with Kinnegad in the next round. Gcastle have a big game against Shamrocks and will take a lot of belief from their draw with Lomans and are still well in the mix for a knockout place.
Overall, I can see The Downs and Lomans and Kinnegad getting through.
In section B I think Tubberclair, Moate and Killucan will get through.
The Downs the standout team and I think the rest of the pack will need to show improvement if they are to be dethroned.

Replying To Claretandblue:  "That's based on Garrycastle and Shamrocks draw which is only a possibility, if Caulry win twice which is difficult but possible they end up on 4 points, they would finish ahead of Loman's if Lomans lost to Kinnegad which is certainly possible and if Shamrocks vs Garrycastle has a definite result as in a win then the loser would have 3 points unless they get points from matches versus Kinnegad or The Downs. It's simply wrong to claim Caulry have two dead rubber matches just to prove new system is wrong. Of course Caulry are favourites for Section B but it's possible they stay up with two wins. They certainly don't have a dead rubber match next."
Why would Caulry want to finish 4th and stay in section A? It makes more sense, now that they can't qualify, to lose their games and go down to Section B next year where they have a better chance of qualifying against teams at their level. Rather than losing to The Downs, Kinnegad, etc next year.

Caulry are out of the championship. To say otherwise is nonsensical. As others have pointed out - finishing 4th is not in anyone's interest. They have nothing to play for for their final two games. Chance that this benefits Lomans in the last round - and they'll need (plus other results), if they lose to Kinnegad the next day.
In saying all that - Caulry wouldn't be qualifying even if 4 teams did come out of Section A. They need to be full strength to have a chance of competing with the top teams.

Has to be said Tubberclair have taken to senior like a duck to water, and who's to say they might not go deep in the championship. Can't remember a promoted team doing that in a while. Missing plenty of top players too.
Ballinagore in the same boat, and am i right in saying they were Junior 2 not long ago? Super impressive allbeit Inter 2 is very weak. Castledaly going into it next year won't strenghten it either.
Will be very competitive though which is good.

They won Junior 2 in 2023 and, I believe, Junior 1 in 2025 with McDaniels having a huge impact on that success. It wasn't that long ago that Tubberclair were playing junior football. I thought it was 2020 when they won the Junior Championship l could be wrong It just shows what strong underage development, along with a bit of financial backing from the area, can do for a club.
