Galway Hurling thread

It would be the moral embarrassment of from winning 4 All Ireland Senior Club titles to been relegated to Junior that would be damaging.
Some Senior teams have never won a All Ireland Club title and as far as I can remember haven't played Intermediate let alone Junior.....Ardrahan would be one example.
It's hard to beat grassland tradition.....these old Clubs who have produced good hurlers through the 20s,30s,40s,50s,60s,70s,80s90s always seem to find away of keeping their Club alive at a decent standard of hurling.
That current Premier Junior is more like footballers who play hurling! Or as one lad said "hurlball Competition "

This is what I would like
4 group Senior winners into QF
4 group runners up in PQF
Example
St Thomas Loughrea, Clarinbridge, Turloughmore QF
Castlegar, T.Larkins, L.Mellows, Athenry PQF
PQF Castlegar v North Galway ,T.Larkins v Galway City/West, L.Mellows v East Galway, Athenry v South Galway.
Imagine East Galway v Clarinbridge or Turloughmore in the Senior QF!!
P.S East Galway would have the advantage of picking from about 10 Clubs

In my opinion it's far better to have won 4 All-Irelands and seen that generational team even if it means some fallow periods, than hanging in at senior without ever winning anything.
Remarkable what they achieved really, considering their fairly unremarkable history.
We might need a few more 'footballers playing hurling' as you say. Only for the Connollys' parents moved from Conamara to Ballybrit, we might still be waiting for the breakthrough.

Galway won the u16 national cup today in Fermoy. Hammered Cork in the semi final and narrowly beat Waterford in the final. Limerick were the other semi finalists. Tipp and Kilkenny not really competitive at that grade which doesn't bode well for them in minor next year.

Your u14s have a good number of strong hurlers too.

Totally agree with you i remember a few years ago Noel Lane winning a junior b country title it was the only adult country medal he won in a long career many clubs are just surviving on senior without ever winning anything

It makes no sense that Kilkenny at least would be weak at that level when St Keirin's is always winning school titles. Kilkenny CBS are usually very good too.

Kierans lost to Good Counsel and St Marys CBS Enniscorthy at Leinster Junior A this year. Kilkenny CBS were decent and beat Good Counsel in the Final.
Kilkenny are Kilkenny, in the long term they will be back winning Liam again.

What are your expectations for Galway in 2027, I'm curious who to bring in and whether any of the younger lads are ready to take that next step.

Retain Bob O'Keefe and a good semi final performance a minimum IMO. Seán Murphy and Cullen Killeen hopefully to get some minutes if they're injury free.

yep we have to retain leinster and also more squad depth. also improve rory burkes fitness because. burke is some prospect
