Limerick did the basic right and never needed to reach any great heights to win comfortably as Galway was so poor on the day.

I wouldn't knock Limerick's 'great heights' at all in 2026. They won league, munster and all Ireland titles, which speaks for itself. They also gave Galway full respect today, after the Cork demolition in the semi, which left us in a bad place on the day. The big result that's hardest to fathom in 2026 is Galway's win over Cork at the semi, and more especially the manner of it. 2025 threw up a looney result as well, when Limerick exited to Dublin.

I think you're wrong there. You're overrating Galway's capacity perhaps. In hindsight, there was flimsy enough evidence that they'd have enough to 'show up' against Limerick. What I can't fathom is how Cork managed to get hammered by us.

Hurling has seen some bizarre games the last few seasons. Hopefully todays game was another one of those amd not an accurate indication of the gap between the two. Seniorleague (Galway) - Posts: 186 - 19/07/2026 21:36:41 2686307 Link 1 |

I dont think there is a big difference in terms of hurling ability or athleticism. Galway have put up huge scores throughout this championship and you dont achieve scores like that if you dont have hurling and athleticism. Today they experienced Munster Championship intensity and physicality. Limerick are used to and excel in that environment. It waa new to Galway , at least it was at that level. It was the difference because we were only a 7 out of 10 today hurling wise but won all the battles or as good as.

Donoghue needs some scrutiny here lads. No plan B. No shrewd subs at HT when hegarty and lynch were cleaning up. More of the same from 2018 instead of Johnny Glynn it's jason rabbitte. One of the worst all Irelands I've ever seen it was completely one sided affair. That red card should've never happened, he should've been whipped off at HT. It's hard to compare teams of different eras. Limerick have reinvented the game again. What they've done in the last decade is amazing, but when we're talking about all time that's a whole other thing. 07 would stick out for me. Nobody could touch that Kilkenny team and they hadn't even peaked yet. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 4613 - 20/07/2026 07:10:55 2686329 Link 0 |

MD showed up with the same system that had us trailing both Wexford and Kildare by double figures until he made changes and got the win. Did he think the same system would overcome limerick the best team in Ireland for the last 8 yrs. He'd no plan B or even try a different format to start to confuse limerick. Clare have pushed limerick to the limit for the last 6/7 yrs and yet he mustn't have watch any tape of how they confuse and drive limerick to their limit. I wonder was there any Galway men involved with Clare he could have asked for any tactical tips on how to play them? Having one in 17 they hard questions won't be asked for now. 2maroonjerseys (Galway) - Posts: 166 - 20/07/2026 09:08:22 2686332 Link 0 |

Hurlers win matches, coaches lose them. One thing Clare have, that Galway don't have, is a couple of high ball contesting forwards in Duggan and O'Donnell, that they often station in the half forward line as the need may arise. Galway have Rabbitte, but don't gameplan him as a half-forward target. Duggan was a major factor in Clare's semi final success for 50mins as a ball contesting half forward. Galway didn't have that all season (haven't had it in 9 years versus this Limerick side in actual fact), especially when Rory Burke went down. The only options were Rabbitte and Whelan. Rabbitte was adhering to a gameplan, posted inside, and Whelan just got out the wrong side of the bed yesterday, and didn't look very capable of any task on the day. They've bet us in 2018, 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2026, so we clearly need a plan B, and shrewder substitutions alright! We need to continue the rebuild too, and find 7or8 new nuggets of players with the physicality, pace and intensity to help this current squad push on a couple of levels higher. I think you are being harsh there on MD. Its not for me to defend him but sometimes things just are what they are. I discussed game with 2 friends in the Cusack before throw in and we were in full agreement that if we got our intensity and physicality up to the levels we know they can reach and hold our defensive shape that it would be a comfortable game for us. I don't think that MD could do anything about that. We won all the battles and that sorted the game. Nothing I've seen from Galway this season indicates that the personnel were available to MD to reverse that. Sometimes it is that simple. Limerick are miles ahead physically at the moment it's the tactical decisions made on the sideline that baffles. He went into an all Ireland welded to his system he didn't try and pull a magic trick to try and confuse limerick's players. Ye had the physical battle won and once ye got to grips with the Galway play twas all over after 20 mins ye had a lot of wides fahy made a few great saves and Lyons was helpful to say the least ye should have been 10 points up at half time. The younger players on the squad now know the levels needed to win an all Ireland it'll stand to them. Tactically MD needs to evolve to at least move forward. Clare have caused ye the most problems over the years, obviously he must think he knows more than lohan. Limerick dominated and swarmed all over the pitch yesterday fair play to ye. Ye have a great team and players and ye deserve every success. 2maroonjerseys (Galway) - Posts: 166 - 20/07/2026 16:28:23 2686392 Link 1 |
