In fairness, i think you know why the inverted commas were used. The line after it confirms it. They blew it and they all know it. And poor auld Rob Hennelly got thrown under the bus for it, even going on Prime Time years later to recount the abuse he got from his own. Imagine that, one of your own, an amateur player, abused to bits for losing an All-Ireland. Never has more column inches and media coverage been spent on a county that has lost every All Ireland they've been in since 1951, as if they have a god given right to win another one. Ciaran Whelan made some comment on the rte podcast that there's no better county than Mayo to get carried away over a semi final.. I had to drive from Mayo to Kerry last week and it was notable the amount of Limerick and Kerry flags on show compared to Mayo ones. Think it was Newcastle West had an enormous flag up about the height of a two storey house! Roscommon was similar around Connacht final time. Haven't seen anything like that in Mayo in years! I've seen enough down the years though to not get too carried away in victory or defeat. Of I'm lucky enough to be alive when Mayo eventually win Sam then I'll go mad but multiple past disappointments have tempered my outlook. Seán Kelly MEP and Former GAA president yesterday I've been thinking for some years now , that Mayo best chance of winning Sam, is when it's least expected and they come in under the radar - bit like this year ? But, when I said that to a guy in Brussels today ,he replied , ' Mayo , come in under the radar ? . You must be joking ! Not a hope . If they qualify for the Final, all the hype and over confidence and 'Mayo4Sam', will take over again and it will blow any chance they have of winning' Not sure , he's right ach mar a deirtear, 'Neosfaidh an aimsear ' So, cool it Mayo! Thanks to the Galway posters, that includes the ones that have accounts under other county names, for coming onto this thread and sharing yer rubbish posts that ye have filled the Galway and other threads with. Back in 2024, did Galway not release a documentary about the day we bet the Dubs, and sold t-shirts with some embarrassing phrase 'Sweet mother of Jesus'? All this for winning a quarter final, like thats has to be one of the cringiest/embarrassing thing a county has ever done. You would think ye would learn by now that media blow up all the hype about counties, especially outside of Kerry and Dublin. Its happened Galway this year and previous years, happened Mayo also back when competing with Dublin.
