Depending on the draw it's home or away for Mayo. If drawn against Meath the away tie it will be Croke Park as Navan is out of operation. Drax_the_destroyer (UK) - Posts: 902 - 14/06/2026 22:24:57 2679672 Link 0 |

As good a draw as we could have hoped for another division 2 team from last year promoted now. Expecting a sell out but weather not looking great. If AOS is to feature he must start IMO.

Don't think we'll see O Shea the next day. Could do a job inside maybe at best. Lack of killer instinct again yesterday. McGreal a huge positive. Midfield still a big worry. Carney happy to break ball yesterday instead of trying to field. Hard to know where we are at. TheFlaker (Mayo) - Posts: 8866 - 15/06/2026 10:15:13 2679755 Link 0 |

Prob fair to say its a decent draw for both teams, could have been alot worse. Home draw always what ya want, could be a shootout. I would have liked to be able to get Dublin too, I think they are the worst team left in it, never thought we'd say that, zero 2 point threat. I think ourselves and yourselves are top two teams on 2 pointers this season so far, mayo being 1st.

One thing about this championship is we area learning every week that there are better players in the extended squad than have been playing so far. tirawleybaron (Mayo) - Posts: 1894 - 15/06/2026 11:49:53 2679819 Link 1 |

Jack Coyne going through a bad patch but to say he isn't up to it is ridiculous.

Disagree, the reason AOS (who was the wrong man for sure) took on the shot was because all the sharpshooters were gone missing, and not for the first time. He had laid the ball off only to have it handed back to him and time was all but up.

Hasn't played well all year in a mayo team focused on attack. Played well last year in a Mayo team playing defensive football. He hasn't the one v one man marking skills needed for corner back these days. To say he has would be ridiculous. tirawleybaron (Mayo) - Posts: 1894 - 16/06/2026 08:24:23 2680073 Link 0 |

Meath at home is a great draw really when you consider we could just as easily been on a road trip down to Killarney. Meath seem to be happy enough to have drawn us too so it's on paper probably a 50/50 game. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 12135 - 16/06/2026 08:25:02 2680074 Link 0 |

He was a top class one on one marker last year. Nonsense to say otherwise. He's struggling for form but to say he hasn't the skills is ridiculous.

I never mentioned the shot he took in my post. I said he was poor in general and is lost around in the middle when a game is wide open.

It was a decent performance the last day. First half Mayo players looked bit sluggish/tired, and was better in the second half. tommy132 (Mayo) - Posts: 677 - 16/06/2026 11:59:08 2680136 Link 0 |

Why do Mayo in recent years particularly usually loose out in tight finishes? I believe they are not properly prepared mentally for these type of battles. Listening to Richie Hogan (former Kilkenny Great) on Off The Ball last night say that in a game where things are going against a Team its The Team that sticks in there that usually wins out in the end. If a Team is not properly prepared mentally they will never reach their full potential. Maritime (Mayo) - Posts: 16 - 18/06/2026 16:12:05 2680476 Link 0 |

In fairness Mayo there 2011-2021 won plenty of tight games and were mentally strong. That was a different team, this is a new team. I'd be concerned too about finishing out games. We lost two recent Connacht titles to Galway that could and probably should have been won. Defeats to Derry at home and Donegal last year when we had the draw we needed and let it slip…. Streetwise, clinical and ruthlessness are something we had but this group has not yet shown. 12 points up against Monaghan and nearly let it slip….thats unforgivable. I'm beginning to worry a small bit that we may be gone back to the "nice" lads pre Horan era. Nice lads win nothing. We need to show something this Sunday. Meath are a good team, a dangerous team but we are at home and of our lads have anything about them they need to be winning this game, otherwise I'm Not sure where they are going…. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 12135 - 18/06/2026 17:43:05 2680501 Link 0 |

I think you have the rose tinted glasses on. If you take out roscommon and galway matches Mayo from 2011 to 2021 either lost/drew a tight match or won comprehensively. They were a far superior team than most they played. 2011 - beat cork comprehensively and lost to kerry comprehensively 2012 - 11 points up v Dublin be fore making it hard for themselves. Gave the game to Donegal in the first 10 minutes 2013 - whalloped Donegal, comfortable v Tyrone and should have beaten Dublin but lost 2014 - close win over a declining Cork and threw away both games away v Kerry 2015 - handy win v Donegal and couldnt get it done v Dublin 2016 - tight win v Tyrone but lost to Dublin as above 2017 - made hard work of almost every game before whalloping them in extra timd or relay before not getting it done v Dublin 2018 - even lost a tight one to Kildare 2019 - won a tight one v Armagh (who have a bad record in tight matches themselves) 2020 - no tight match 2021 - got one over dubin in fairness - then collapsed v Tyrone after missing a penalty. The harsh reality in that period was we were a top 2 team but couldnt beat the no1 team and often lost to the no 3 or 4 team in tight matches. We are now (2022-2026) ranked somewhere between 8-12 and everyone knows if you stick in the game v Mayo, they will give you a chance to win at the end. The problem is alway the same - all heart and no reliable forward to step up when needed. tirawleybaron (Mayo) - Posts: 1894 - 19/06/2026 08:57:21 2680537 Link 0 |

You can sing that. Good luck against Meath. We were luck last year and drew with them In The Hyde. Don't think they've evolved too much and are missing two of their best players. Could be a Galway mayo quarter yet. Ros2013 (Roscommon) - Posts: 653 - 19/06/2026 14:07:30 2680601 Link 1 |
