Good draw - Westmeath at home though they'll be happy as well

They will be happy, but I think home advantage is worth a few points to us, which sould be the difference. Championship is wide open. Honestly given the draw, if we get over this stage, I genuinely feel this team actually have a huge shot at making a final. Our performance against Roscommon gives me a lot of hope.

Enough chickens in Monaghan without counting the metaphorical ones. It's the Leinster champions coming to Clones next weekend- will be a lot tougher than the Connacht ones proved.

May as well have the the quarter finals at Clones whilst you are at it. Ye are the new Dublin.

Four matches in a row at Clones is a bit much and one of the only flaws with going from group stage to this.

I'd imagine it will be a Saturday game too so Westmeath draw the short straw on 6 day turnaround

We'll be very lucky to make a final. Beat Westmeath, then hope for Louth (bad record against Cork, Galway are good, Tyrone would be tricky) and then you are looking at avoiding Kerry and hoping for Meath or Mayo.

Good draw for both sides. Westmeatb will have no fear of us and tend to travel well. I remember few years back they played Tyrone or armagh away and were only a kick of a ball from putting them out. They are a very fit athletic side with good forwards. We will need huge defensive display here

As Donegal know after the weekend, home ground is not always an advantage

Good draw for you, enough fairytales for Westmeath. Let's make it 4 Ulster teams in the last 8.

In Ulster Championship, most Ulster teams are as experienced in Clones as Monaghan are, the rest is purely luck of the draw. We earned our right to play in Clones for Ulster Final. We also earned our home draw in the first round too. Unfortunately Donegal failed to earn that right. Sure ye got a home draw too against Cork.

It wouldn't be luck though. If we are to take from the Roscommon game that we have learned from our slow starts and now have, for the most part, our best players all fit again; then we should be capable of beating any of those teams. Of course, we are capable of losing to anyone too. However, there is a maturity and depth to our squad now that is better than the previous years where we hit a QF and SF.

Monaghan have to play the Leinster champions next while Donegal get to play the (well beaten) Leinster runners up. It's objectively a tougher draw for Monaghan when you stand back from it.
Good luck in Parnell Park, I will be shouting for Donegal as many/most in Monaghan do.

pp must know the fixures before the GAA does :) it has us down to play Sunday at 3:30pm.. odds of 15/8 for Monaghan win and 2/1 for Westmeath.. surely those odds are too strong for us, I see it more a 50:50 game, Westmeath will take some beating but could be crippled by injuries after yesteradays game.
This is a fantastic oppertunity for this group of players to make a quarter final and if the draw is kind after that, who knows where it might take us... We have to be fired up for this game.!!

On paper it looks good but anyone who follows monaghan will know it's a game we could trip up in. Bring the same energy from Saturday and work rate and play, it will be there for us. Anything less, it will be tight.
