Great win but I wasn't shocked. Ye have some unbelievable players. The only direction ye are heading is up dave1988 (Roscommon) - Posts: 1393 - 19/04/2026 18:14:50 2667282 Link 0 |

Tbf I think that Westmeath have proven Pat right today. Ye are too good for Tailteann Cup. It was a great team performance today with excellent football and footballers throughout.

Have to agree on Dan Scahill. Dan was immense today, won all his 50 50 balls with Lynch who was then taken off. Conor Dillon deserves a mention. Only really back from a serious injury and he puts the shackles on Jordan Morris. Same team has to start the next day with Jason obviously in nets. Jason wasnt happy taking instructions from backroom member in first half, understandably so after been dropped. I thought the ship had sailed with the Mc Cormack experiment. Jason is the best keeper we have. Speedy recovery to Conor. Any word on Conors injury?

Congrats to Westmeath on a deserved win, we were well aware with the likes of Ray Connellan, Matthew Whittacker, Luke Loughlin and Ronan Wallace you have some players who'd get into any team and they all dominated today. Conor Dillon also locked up Jordan Morris. Credit to Mark Mccugh for nailing that match up. I don't think Meath have anyone who can stop the opposing teams best forward like that. I thought you were a Dublin supporter? Normally a true Dublin supporter doesn't give up so easily? Probably too long in Sligo

Huge win today. Credit to McHugh & his backroom team. We have good coaches in Westmeath too though, McDonnell & Gounod played a big part from management all season. McHugh should be signed up for the next 3 years at least & not let him leave. Its clear to see the players are completely bought into the system of play, super fit & huge work rate. Scahill excellent but still his man in second half scored 4 points from play so will need to tighten up a bit the next day. Sam was a bit out of the game & then came into it when it mattered. Luke outstanding as usual, hopefully ok for the semi. The two Shane's were brilliant & i thought Conor Dillon was close to MOM. Its hard to say anyone played bad. Roll on Kildare, great chance. What a win today. Many players showed they are at a really high level. Management learned a lot about their team in the white hot atmosphere of championship football. Great occasion and support for both teams. You could really tell the players who were able to go up a level and those who weren't. I would be a little concerned about our strength in depth. Having worked with 4/5 players on the team at inter county underage level, it was a brilliant day for everyone involved with Westmeath football. Best win since 2015. There are good times ahead of us hopefully. Iarmhisamhi (Westmeath) - Posts: 49 - 19/04/2026 21:32:26 2667362 Link 2 |

Congrats to Westmeath today but hopefully not too much as there is a very winnable semi final and possible Leinster title ahead. I know ye have come out the wrong side of close encounters in recent years but hopefully after today ye can push on. Credit doing what you're doing considering the structures down there. Westmeath have some real quality players and hopefully Loughlin will be fit for the semi final. panamasam (Australia) - Posts: 2931 - 19/04/2026 22:43:36 2667377 Link 0 |

Drove down from Belfast for the match. What a difference it is that these games are in pitches like Tullamore and not a double header in croker with Dublin and 22k attendance in a dead stadium with seagulls on the pitch. Makes such a difference getting these matches in front of packed stadium. You could touch the atmosphere. Hopefully the Kildare match sees a good Westmeath support turnout for the team. Heroic to a man. Scahill, Drumm, Whittaker,Dillon, McCartan, Loughlin, Corcoran all immense. If we bring that intensity in two weeks we're in a Leinster final. You'd wonder how we lost to a Wexford when you see how high the ceiling is for this team Bluelake (Westmeath) - Posts: 358 - 19/04/2026 23:53:43 2667395 Link 0 |

Fantastic win, I think the most surprising aspect was the performances of a number of players who probably reached a level we hadn't seen before e.g. Scahill and Corcoran. Kildare will be a different mentality and challenge but I would fancy us now to reach a Leinster Final. It's been a fair turnaround since Wexford, things really looked doomed that evening. McHugh deserves huge credit the players seem to have great time for him. Hopefully Loughlin is ok, it's hard to see him not featuring in fairness. Wallace was solid but I think he needs to get back to his level which ironically was the last time we played Kildare. OverTheHill85 (Westmeath) - Posts: 276 - 20/04/2026 07:35:41 2667404 Link 0 |

Excellent performance westmeath, aided by a very average performance from us, but full value for 5 point win. Im sure youll agree, westmeath problem seems to be sustaining those types of performances. The talent is there, midfield and GK maybe not top level. southmeathgael (Meath) - Posts: 1068 - 20/04/2026 07:52:17 2667405 Link 0 |
