Replying To The_analyser:  "Strong 2nd half after a wasteful 1st half in a very cold and windy Dr Hyde Park. FT Roscommon U20s 2-19 Sligo 0-15. Sligo looked decent for the opening 20 minutes yet after that managed 1 point from a tap over breach.

Mayo in MacHale Park up next up us."
Just coming up to half time; Roscommon were 11 points behind (0-3 to 0-14). However there was only one team in it after that, as Roscommon then out scored Sligo by 2-16 to 0-1 to win by ten.
Good and improved overall team performance. They will have to up it again against a strong Mayo team with a few senior players next week.

Excellent team performance by Roscommon U17s as we win 0-14 to 1-6. Apart from a late rally we were well worth that 5 point win, Galway with most of the same players and manager that won the u16 Ted webb cup last year would not have expected that.

Roscommon full value for it - we were very poor.
I wouldn't write off that Galway team yet all the same.
They are better than they showed on the night.
We will see what they're made of now against Sligo and Mayo

Very impressive from Roscommon minors. A really well coached team. Full credit to Shane Moran, his management team and to the players. We're going for back to back Connacht minor titles.

Amazingly Donegal defeat to us two weeks ago was their only defeat in this league campaign. Kerry wouldn't have been in today's final but for a load of breaks in round 1 against us from Brendan Cawley, the manner of the defeat today they probably wished they weren't in the final.

Had we not been robbed of a deserved draw in Killarney we'd have been on 7 points after Galway.
Would we have totally experimented in the last 3 games or have chased a Final place?
I'd say the former.

Roscommon didn't seem interested in getting to the League Final. It seemed to be job done when we were safe from relegation. I still don't understand what happened in the final league match against Mayo in Castlebar.

I find that very difficult to understand. Its not as if Division 1 titles grow on trees. I see that was Murphys 1st today and he has the full set now.
It would be the biggest achievement of Roscommon football since the 70s but they either bottled it(against Dublin) or didnt pursue it.

Hard to disagree with you that Roscommon bottled it. Can't understand why we didnt go out to best Mayo. Poor management decision.

Mark Dowd didn't mince his words when he said what the priority for the final league match was, getting minutes into the legs of players. We ended up with team with no structure and as Kerry found out today when you concede a glut of goals in a short space of time your goose it cooked.

Reaching the final was out of our hands if we went into that match knowing had we won we would be in the league final then maybe the interest would be different.

You don't sound very imformed.

You should be posting credit to your management for keeping Roscommon up against the odds in Division one with a game to spare instead of that needless criticism now.

Not that difficult to understand at all. Roscommon needed favours from elsewhere to reach a final and then beat Mayo in MacHale Park.

Donegal just needed to beat pointless Monaghan to reach the final and Kerry just avoid defeat against Armagh. Roscommon won 4 of their league games far exceeding any expectations your post is suggesting they should be winning 6 of their 7 games and then once in the final it would be low hanging fruit to pick, do you know how silly that sounds?

Roscommon had a reasonable team out against Mayo but their energy, speed of thought and decision making was way off. It reminded me of the Kildare game a couple of years ago where some of our top players were blowing hard after 15 minutes. Getting the S&C balance right between hard training, game time, hard games, rest and peaking at the right times is critical.
Jack O Connor's comment yesterday that the hard Armagh game and travel arrangements last week took it out of the Kerry team during the week is interesting.

Something that Roscommon must keep in mind before the New York and hopefully the Mayo games.
Have Roscommon peaked too early?
Have Donegal peaked too early?
We will find out in the next few weeks.

Niall Carty a clubman of mine a serious addition to the backroom team. One of the top young coaches in the country

We had a good League.
Won 4, would have drawn with (or bet) Kerry with a consistent ref.
Introduced 10 or 11 new players to Inter County , matched Kerry, Galway, Donegal and Armagh, the last 4 AI finalists.
Had a bad one v Dublin ( due to changes in the team?) and ran the bench v Mayo.

May and June will be huge tests where we'll need the right balance of strength, experience and youthful enthusiasm and hopefully be as competitive as we were in the 5 good League games.

Bottled is a soccer term used by idiots.

Every team had off games in Division 1 this year and even Kerry yesterday showed that.

You can insult me all you want. It doesnt change the fact that Roscommon had a great chance to reach a division 1 final and lost badly at home to a team was relegated in the first game their fans expected them to win of the campaign. Im not sure what you would call it when that happens. Do you?
