Being hung for protesting is a tragedy. Its nearly as bad as being bombed for going to primary school in Iran. Just 180 odd Iranian kids without a political bone in their body, dead, and not one word of apology from your American idol. Give the scale of that a think, while you're highlighting atrocities.

Ah jeez never knew. Keep the war going so. Where should they attack next? Qatar? UAE? Saudi? If it's human rights you are concerned about.

But bombing a school is ok. You definitely should hand back your Irish passport.

I think we can all agree war is just ugly. The absolute worst of humanity. Technology of the last 150 years in war is the worst human achievement. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 4330 - 20/03/2026 11:16:31 2661899 Link 1 |

Looking at Lebanon, why are the peacekeeping forces not engaging with the Israeli forces who crossed over into the Leb or Hezbollah who fired rockets at Israel? Commodore (Donegal) - Posts: 1662 - 20/03/2026 12:53:45 2661916 Link 1 |

I don't think they can. It's not in the mandate. Are you suggesting the Irish soldiers should fire back…with what? Their rifles and side arms? Israel would kill them all in one go.

The only winners in war are the military industrial complex. The cheerleading and grandstanding by this administration and Fox News is sick.

Oh come on now, this isn't a bar brawl in the street suitation. The weaponry available to peacekeepers is certainly not in anyway adequate for real combat suitations. Peacekeepers can only be expected to keep the peace when there isn't a war raging around them. Diplomatic channels are supposed to assist with de-esculation of suitations like this.

Peacekeeping UN mandate only. Peace inforcement a different ball gane. No way will such a mandate be passed bu UN Security Council will be vetoed by US in this case.

Well I always assumed the role of Peacekeeping forces was to provide a neutral military presence on the ground, that is there to prevent conflict from kicking off and to engage any side that breaches the peace. Otherwise I don't understand how the purpose of having them on the ground and armed.

Its a token gesture, and maybe a bit of a deterrent. But at the end of the day they are heavily outnumbered and outgunned by Hezbollah and Israel. They wouldn't stand a chance against either side.
