Everyone's choice who they get their insurance with, couldn't care either way but people have a right to peaceful protest. GAA was here before Allianz and will be here long after them. You'd think by some people that GAA couldn't survive without them. How would Allianz Croke Park sound?

The Croke Park protest was hardly peaceful. They forced their way in (injuring security staff in the process) and trespassed. They should be identified and charged. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11941 - 03/03/2026 08:13:52 2659660 Link 8 |

This idea that the gaa will have no bother picking up a new league sponsor if Allianz are kicked out is very amusing and shows a complete lack of understanding of economics. ohwow (Leitrim) - Posts: 21 - 03/03/2026 09:42:22 2659672 Link 0 |

Were any of those "invaders" members of the GAA?

I honestly dont have an opinion on this. But 1 observation. RTE dont have to include Allianz in the name of the program . It could be called, Gaa Sunday or Match of the Day. Unless of course they are getting paid by Allianz too? If thats the case Allianz are indirectly paying the pundits? If im correct then i think there is some hypocrisy abounding? I would be happy to be corrected regarding the above assumptions. anotheralias (Galway) - Posts: 1041 - 03/03/2026 10:46:24 2659684 Link 3 |

Some of the leading protesters , all got plenty from the GAA over the years, even after the protest went on to RTE to get paid for work on the Allianz Nationsl League game ,and others with their I. Phone recording the protests, without Isreal these phones could not be made some hypocrites there alright. jacktheboy (Donegal) - Posts: 535 - 03/03/2026 11:17:09 2659703 Link 2 |

Well that's the thing….who knows ? There's are very extreme element in this country these days on both the left and right. When you have Mick Wallace and Vlare Daly offering their sympathies to Iran on the death of their dictator you know they have lost the room.

GAA's total revenue for 2025 was €142 million of which €800 thousand came from allianz, not to be sniffed at but not life or death money either.

Yes, Cantwell addressed too in the piece I'd already watched and which I watched back again at somebody else's invitation. RTE are contractually obliged to call their coverage "Allianz League". Yet Canavan seems to have no problem with appearing on it. Nor does he appear to be calling on RTE to drop their own association with Allianz, in the way he's calling on the GAA to drop theirs. In short - he won't bite a hand that's feeding him. But he wants somebody else to bite a hand that's feeding them. Do as I say, not as I do. How much does GAA pay for insurances? All by Allianz? Seanfan (Roscommon) - Posts: 399 - 03/03/2026 14:20:47 2659767 Link 2 |

I see the wokies made their mark at the weekend. So much for peaceful protest. I'd say a lot of them never stood foot on a gaa pitch in their lives. The same wokies will no doubt be sympatising with Iran in the coming days. Comical stuff. Square_B (Leitrim) - Posts: 1857 - 03/03/2026 22:59:11 2659838 Link 0 |

No idea what's paid overall, if you tot up everything paid by every GAA club across the country. But what I do know is that Allianz provide public liability insurance to all clubs on very favourable terms. If clubs went to the open market for the same level of cover, they'd be forking out much more. Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 3380 - 03/03/2026 23:23:04 2659841 Link 1 |

Viking, history is written by the victors however over time if you dig deep enough even the victors keep records that disprove their narrative. Israel has done a brilliant job on creating the narrative around independence and how the faced a David v Goliath situation which resulted in the "displacement" as a result of the war of the native population from their lands. Some of the original works the "New Historians" challenge the original narrative. However none of this is related to Allianz and as I had explained earlier the connection between Allianz and Gaza is somewhat weak in its argument. There are far more direct links between companies that are used daily by the same people who protest against Allianz but yet they do not concern themselves with these in their own lives. Quite why this all erupted again is beyond me. The problem for a lot of people if the feeling of helplessness, we see all this madness going on and are powerless to do anything about it. They then see Allianz in this report (without understand what that even meant) and the GAA sponsored by Allianz and think I can make a difference here if I protest against this. It makes people feel like they are doing something. However helping means now dealing with the consequences of what happened as we were really powerless to have stopped it, donate to organizations who provide relief in Gaza, that's the help the Palestinians now need. zinny (Wexford) - Posts: 2177 - 04/03/2026 03:31:06 2659854 Link 0 |

I doubt they would find another sponsor willing to pay 800k a year for a second tier competition

The fun thing would be for Allianz to demand is that all the presenters and pundits wore branded jackets with their logo etc as part of the contract. We'd see what'd happen then

Comical ??? GAA complicity - turning a blind eye - to genocide identified by the the UN's Francesca Albanese. For your information far from 'never set foot in a GAA pitch in their lives' I played in Croke Park before Jarlath Burns or Tom Ryan were born … and later in an all-Ireland final. I'm proud to have carried a banner into the delegate Congress stating 'Allianz Blood Money Out of Our GAA. Blackcoatsoffthefield (Galway) - Posts: 27 - 04/03/2026 09:02:20 2659869 Link 3 |
