Replying To TanCanRan:  "Obviously untrue.

We also have other sports to fall back on in the bad days which is a consolation. It's football or nothing in Mayo."
What other sports do Galway people get to follow and watch that Mayo people don't or any other county for that reason? I've seen this arrogant response a number of times here.

Well we have a league Ireland team and Connacht play in the city and while it represents the entire province it's based in Galway

As I outlined above in another post across this century we are competitive across every code at a level I don't think any other county can compare to.

Club camogie hurling football you name it

Galway clubs alone has won around 25% of club all Irelands this century with 7 different winners

I get this too a lot from
A relation of mine in Galway. Compete superiority complex. You only need
To look
At basketball in Mayo and it totally debunks it.

Replying To jm25:  "We also have a women's club team win both all Irelands

In last 25 years I've seen Galway win minor u17 & u18, u20/21 & senior inter county all Irelands in both codes.

Multiple clubs have also won hurling and football all Irelands in that time

Can any other county match that range? possibly Cork"
Aren't ye just great sure !

There's a semi professional soccer team and a professional rugby team on their doorstep. The main population base of the county has a limited interest in GAA, and it ends up being confined to small heartland areas

I don't think this is a controversial point either. Galway people have always been known to flit from one team to the next without every really caring that much. They'll pay no heed on football until it's going well, they'll pop into Connacht rugby or the hurling will come center stage in other years, all the while never getting too excited either way. When there's busy periods and festivals on during the summer they'll often not bother going to anything

Mayo on the other hand is a one show town for local support, always has been. And if Galway are on the low end of emotionally connected fans then Mayo are most certainly on the high end

There's pro's and cons to both those situations, neither are ideal really. I wouldn't be getting offended either way, it is what it is

I think some of those teams are Clare.

Kilkerron Clonberne ladies, portumna, corofin incredible achievements by small parishes

Imagine if we focused all our energy into one code like some counties.

That's why I was very disappointed for tooreen the other week life is going to be a lot difficult for them to progress this far from next year with change in Galway club hurling but then a rising tide lifts all boats playing higher quality teams may improve them also.

Yes agree with you on this, it is an arrogant view point and not at all accurate.

Clare ? Ha

Yeah ye do have great hurling teams certanily when I lived in Galway ye actually seemed more of a hurling county then a football one certanily back then anyways. You can focus all your energy in one code but still might not be good enough if you don't have the players.

It's an arrogant view point to say Mayo only play football.
Tooreen will come again but it was an awful way to loose .

Anyone here want to talk about the upcoming game rather than arguing over who has better support? Anyone know if or when Paul convoy is coming back?

That time of year agsin start of league and the serious stuff ,, I will attempt to pick team that i think management will go with ,, a friend of mine in Dublin told me Galway played dubs 2 weeks ago and silke was wing forward he assured me he was not messing with that in mind ( madness in my opinion) and with Walsh , comer Mcdaid Maher Darcy not starting
Gleason
McGrath. Fitz. Glynn
O Laoi. Mchugh. Molloy / coggers
Kelly Tierney ( Roche )

Silke. Mulhern. O flaherty

Finnerty. Mcdoonagh Mcdonagh
Leitmore. Moycullen
My apologies spelling the 2 lads in full forward line
I'm only assuming if silke played there v dubs he coukd next day and o flaherty seemes to be being plated wing forward also In my opinion neither are forwards hard see many scores

Considering Mayo have a warm weather training camp done and as you mention, Joyce doesn't even know for another few weeks whether key players are even returning, it'll surely be a shock if Mayo don't win this one comfortably?

Injuries not helping Galway one bit either

You should give us the lotto numbers or else someone must have leaked the team to you as you have the the full 15 named exactly there. Light on scoring threat in forwards and not much size out around middle 8 compared to how we normally fare but least we have Darcy and Walsh on bench to come on if struggling.Be good see how the 2 mc donaghs in ff line fare out. Oisin mc donagh looked to be good ball winner the last day and laid off pass well for our second goal. Cillian o curraion must have a knock or something not to be on bench even. He didn't score at all for ucg the last night despite playing the full game which unusual for him.

Neither to be honest I was just going on what I heard about challenge matches and looking at lads who played in FBD i still think it crazy putting silke in forward line surely Shane McGrath be much better as he is a forward o Flahery also not a forward in a county where we used produce good forwards what has gone wrong I know we missing a few but surely we must start picking forward in forwards , if mayo don't beat this Galway team by 4-5 points they going nowhere either

Interesting line up big note is Silke WF but will he line out there I dont think so espec not come champo but this is what league is for a bit of experimenting. Especially with new rules the the middle 8 just go everywhere really. i dont think O Curraoin offers enough from play & also think O Conghaile will have to make big impact if and when he get chances. Happy to see Maher as captain & mcHugh VC always good to change it around. On Maher & Comer any time line given for a return absolutley no rush but definitely would like see Damo play and get through mins this year. Feels like we have same conversation about him and his inj every year. I will be very intersted to see how the 2 McDonaghs get on. Fionn must be about 6 4
