Vacuous or not they're certainly regarded as one of the great club sides

Footage was viewed and there was nothing in it to clear the player. Player got off on a technicality , not because 'there was nothing in it'. Still glad he played so both teams had a fair shot. Bookies had it as a 4 point game. BG won by 6 pulling up. Deserved winners. Loughrea have youth on their side and will be back.

Yes that is all correct. Ballygunner have youth in the wings also. You wait your time down there. Pauric and Phillip will eventually go. Incidentally Philip one of the most underrated player ever. We had a clown from another county who knows nothing about them saying Ballygunner were on their way out. They have Mark Hartley, Connor Tobin, Ian Cuddihy waiting a chance to be regulars. That is without even talking about Spain, Comford and the players who won minor All-Ireland medals last year. We keep hearing how bad they are for Waterford hurling but they also cruised through Munster and the Leinster champions and now the best from Galway. Ballygunner will be beaten eventually and the best teams can on any given day.

Hard Luck to Loughrea, competed well in the first half but Ballygunner showed they were a class above and were cruising near the end. Loughrea will have the hunger in the belly to go again though three in a row will be a big incentive in Galway and back to an all Ireland again they have a few top talents coming through aswell. From a Galway perspective I was very intrigued to see how some of the Loughrea lads performed on the big day with a view of them being potential starters or squad players for Galway, I know it was one game in isolation but not many stood up yesterday unfortunately . It was men against boys yesterday with Ballygunner blowing Loughrea away in the physical stakes. Add that to their hurling ability and tactics and there was only going to be one winner. John Doe (Galway) - Posts: 257 - 19/01/2026 07:38:28 2651770 Link 0 |

It doesn't look so funny now, does it? Conor Cooney wouldn't have missed that handy free Killeen did to bring it back to a one-score game in a Thomas' jersey at least. TanCanRan (Galway) - Posts: 318 - 19/01/2026 11:25:06 2651829 Link 1 |

What was the technicality as a matter of interest ?

It's so technical I though I'd better just let you read it.. It is possible of course that the CHC/CAC 'accidentally' left this loophole so the DRA could find it...anyway here it is... The Tribunal (Mr. Dermot Flanagan SC, Mr. Gareth Robinson BL and Mr. Con Hogan) carefully considered the submissions of the parties over the course of three hours. The CAC determined at page 2 of its decision that the Central Hearings Committee (CHC) heard the evidence submitted by the Claimant and reviewed the video and decided that the evidence was not compelling such as to rebut the Referee's Report. It is clear from the CHC's minutes and its decision that that was not the test that was applied. The Tribunal determined that there was a misapplication of Rule 7.3 (aa) (1) (vi) T.O. 2025 by the CHC. The Tribunal determined that the CAC erred in not identifying a misapplication of Rule 7.3 (aa) (1) (vi) T.O. 2025. Pursuant to Rule 7.6 (q) the Tribunal quashed the decision of the Central Appeals Committee (CAC) dated 15 January 2026. The Tribunal thereafter quashed the decision of the Central Hearings Committee (CHC) dated 9 January 2026. The Tribunal directs no further action on the part of the decision maker pursuant to precedent. conordee (Galway) - Posts: 461 - 19/01/2026 15:22:31 2651916 Link 0 |
