Replying To Commodore:  "I think McGuinness was fuming at the wasted goal chances on offer, twice in injury time we seen Eoin McGeehan wide open in front of goal, and ball carriers selfishly went for the point. Overall I think the new faces grew into the game as it went on, but it was still the experienced hands that drove it on. Daire O'Baoill looked immense, although its only January.

Overall its good to get another game in before the National League."
It was actually very uncharacteristic of McCahill to take the easy point. Usually he is very goal driven when he gets half a sniff but it's a massive learning curve for him. As pointed out a 5 point lead can be whittled away very quickly so that ball needs to be hand passed to McGeehin for the walk in goal. I'm sure he'll learn from it but make no mistake he is going to be a name on many lips in the very near future.

McGuinness actually brought it up in his post match presser. It was literally a 3/4 Donegal men and just the Derry keeper. It was an error from a young player eager to do well.

Aye, McCahill played brilliantly, he looks like an exciting player, as did most of the other new faces. Hoping Shaun Patton won't be out for long, as we will miss his kickout ability in the National League.

You appear to have your finger on the Mayo pulse, any idea why is the Neary lad gone from the Mayo panel or Maheady from Crossmolina, them lads are good forwards. Why did they fall out of favour so quickly with Andy? Mayo have been desperate for forwards for ages.

Congrats to everyone involved yesterday evening. The silverware was a bonus but the main thing was getting experience and minutes into legs. Very impressed with the younger players and none look out of place. I'm sure the league will reveal more and I expect there will be plenty of opportunities for these players. It doesn't look like we'll be deviating too much from the game plan but my gut tells me we'll need more variation looking ahead. The squad strength now looks outrageously strong. Yes Monaghan were down a few big players but so were Donegal and to be able to bring on the likes of Ryan, Ban, Jason McGee and Peader from such a possession of strength on the scoreline just highlights the depth. To me it looks like all the Four Masters lads will have a part to play. Add in O'Hare, Max Campbell and Kieran Gallagher we're in a very strong place. Special mention to Shea Malone who took his goals well. It's tough playing inside the way we play but hopefully he continues to develop and get better as he has the potential to be a great addition. As far as I'm aware Campbell, Roarty, Muldoon, McCahill and the 2 Carr's are all under 20 this year with maybe the exception being Senan is that correct?

Shea Malone (2005)
Finnbarr Roarty (2006)
Kevin Muldoon (2006)
Max Campbell (2007)
Turlough Carr (2007)
Conor McCahill (2007)
Seanán Carr (2005)
I think it's very important to keep a strong U20 team together.

The McKenna Cup has been great this year, not just because we won it and a massive well done to all the team and players, they done us proud as always.
Great hope for the future of Donegal football, remember the despair of a few years ago? seems like a bad dream now.

So would that mean Shea and Senan are ineligible for the under twenties? I imagine there will be a big push for the under twenties this year. The managements seem to work in tandem going on last year.

Any word on Patton,Murphy and Gallen? Will it be championship time before we see them?

Donegal are in a great place for the present and future. Always had a young team but now ya throw in the 5-10 great young players that have been added to the panel, we could be set for the next decade. It's sad to see Paddy go (although I think he can be coaxed back) and we may not have much longer left of Ryan and Murphy but even still, what a talented bunch of players.

In a great place. We're under the radar a little bit regarding the talent coming through. The media often lazily will comment no recent success at underage as a barometer when the reality is you could put a blanket over ourselves, Derry and Tyrone. Tyrone won the AI last year but we pushed them to the very end and had them pinned but for a cheap infraction on the 3 back rule when we had a tsunami of momentum. I really hope them young lads can get their Ulster medal and see what happens after. It'll give the county great momentum. Kerry another story. They'll be very hard stopped with a fit David Clifford but that's a conundrum for another time.

Yeah I agree it would be great to see a bit of variation in our play. Would like to see some set plays or planned moves ending up in two pointers. If you think of David Cliffords 2 pointers in the AI final last year they were straight off the training ground, everyone on the team knew how they were going to be scored. Granted we haven't got someone like Clifford but I think other teams are working on strategies to get the right fellas in the right positions to kick two pointers and its winning games. Doesn't seem like something McGuinness is interested in pursuing. Maybe we will see a bit in the league. All the same we did put up a decent scoreline against Monaghan.

A great McKenna cup overall and very enjoyable final. Would love to continue seeing the young guns used during the league and by the sounds of it that's what McGuinness will be aiming to do.

Another thing I enjoyed seeing was McFadden cutting in from the left at speed to kick points. He did it a few times so it must be something he's worked on. Very accurate. What a transformation that man has had in 2 years. Seriously impressive and great to see.

I think the nature of the defeat to Kerry in the final has us written off in a lot of the national media which won't do any harm really. There was a lot of talk of the zonal defence being completely dead after Kerry's performance but in reality I think the structures are not what let us down that day.

but as I say I'm happy enough to be under the radar, even though we are back to back Ulster champions we are third behind Tyrone and Armagh in a lot of the chatter I've seen. I think both those counties are very strong too. It'll be great to see how we get on in Croke Park this weekend.

great to see the performance of some of the young lads at the weekend there, it was my first game of the year - fair weather fan only going to finals! I was very impressed with Shea Malone especially the finish for the second goal, and also thought Turlough Carr got on a lot of ball and played well. Mark Curran I thought played well too and great to see big Hughie moving so well, he is so important to us in my opinion.

Monaghan hit a lot of wides in key moments but you always felt we had another gear especially with the strength of the bench.
