If Peters done have a Leinster A title at any age by the time this years first years are finished 6th year I think they'll never be back to their standards. There 3rd years and down definitely have the players and the coaches to win a junior or juvenile medal in the next 2-3 years and I honest think they'll never could carry it into senior their first years now look like they'll never could win Leinster A and they just won by 40 points in the Wexford championship and their 2nd years are probably the 2nd best at that age on 2nd to Kieran's but could honestly see them beating them if it came down to the big stages 3rd years don't look to bad either with the junior team nearly only being 3rd years and I would still say this is the weakest year out of the 3 I've talked about Hurler20 (Wexford) - Posts: 7 - 16/01/2026 22:34:16 2651393 Link 0 |

Playing Kierán's in the semi now and have every chance to win it. I hope they do win it would be great for Wexford and brilliant for the young chaps gcc has been the best school in Wexford for a good while now

They need to get their coaching contacts back to last years levels.1st years only going training once a week this year, with a half hour in a lunchtime as well. Not sure about 2nd and 3rd years. That's just not enough. Absolutely they have the players and Rory Jacob is s good coach. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 18025 - 17/01/2026 12:30:44 2651438 Link 0 |

Counsel Looking Good aswell done well in the junior this year and got unlucky in the final vs CBS, There's been some good games between them in the younger grades the last few years although their first years only managed to beat Wexford CBS by 4 points and it looks like Peters are a far stronger side at this years first years

If you are picking a win v Dublin as a barometer that things were OK in the u20s when they ultimately lost to Laois, or a minor team completely humiliated by Kilkenny by 20+ points as not being a bad team then we have completely hit peak acceptance of average. Why have wexford only 6 all irelands ? Jimbob96 (Wexford) - Posts: 36 - 17/01/2026 16:15:09 2651462 Link 0 |

6 is pretty decent with our playing numbers over the years, and especially when you consider we were a Football first county until the 50s.

Having seen both 1st year teams I agree. GCC Juniors and Seniors have plenty Wexford lads on them. Along with the lads named Tobin from Rathnure and Kehoe from Geraldine's on both Junior and Senior teams. Rossiter and Codd good players also. Think the Juniors have had more than 10 different Wexford lads starting for them. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 18025 - 17/01/2026 18:07:35 2651475 Link 0 |

Remember watching the Rathangan/Cleariestown Rackard League team play at HT of the Galway match in Salthill last year and thought they were impressive, Piercestown/Murrintown beat them in the final if I'm not mistaken, also had Kilmore win the next division down in the Rackard League which was something of a first Are many of those Anne's & Martin's players with Peter's? Am guessing most of those Kilmore lads are Bridgetown instead ElGranSenor (Wexford) - Posts: 781 - 17/01/2026 18:15:16 2651477 Link 0 |

As regards Dublin I was pointing out to a Dublin man a fact in answer to his post. I never said our minors and u20s did well last year, in fact quite the opposite if you read my posts back. As regards Tipp they have 20 plus AIs to our 6 for several different reasons. One is because they won alot of them when we were more of a Football county. Another would be they have around double the number of hurlers, and even more lads who only play hurling than we do. Lastly they have more lads willing to stand at the side of a pitch from January to November coaching young lads than we do, and proportionately less lying around in Australia occasionally posting wisdom from afar on HS. Only very big counties have more AIs in both codes than we have. Dublin, Galway and Cork are the only counties with more AIs in both codes than we have. And alot of Dublins were won back in the day with very few Dubs playing on the teams at the time. They are still the 3 counties with the largest number of GAA players by quite a margin. A few of those Kilmore lads are at Peters. They were a very good team, beat Castlebridge in the Roinn B Final. A good few of those Castlebridge lads are at Peters too. Alot of the boys in the Roinn A final including the 2 top scorers in the game are in Peters as well. They have a very good 1st year team. Yes 2 good lads. Unfair they had 2 sent off when it was Johnstown started it, and also kept it going, but only had 1 sent off.

The short answer is too many sports and not enough people.

Plenty of Tipp lads out here Viking just FYI. I know 2 Tipp lads out here who played with Tipp at a high level. Young people want to travel you know. My day for coaching will come. If Tipp have more lads willing to coach than Wexford that's not my problem. Seems an unnecessary jibe but anyway, I'll make no apology for travelling and enjoying life. I did my bit too as a player, more than many. And will do more. Tipp won 4 All-Irelands since we won our last. Population of Wexford is 163,919, population of Tipp is 167,895. We should have as many hurlers as they do. Its no excuse. We're just a mile off the pace at every level. StoreysTash (Wexford) - Posts: 1946 - 17/01/2026 23:13:40 2651536 Link 0 |

Couldn't help myself Storeystash:-) You have every right to go travelling and enjoying yourself, I did plenty of it when I was your age before kids came along. Fact remains that as a county we are behind Tipp in hurling numbers, those stats I quoted you are from 2024. And we just don't have the same gra for coaching as a county either. Our population only started growing exponentially when part of the county became a dormitory for Dublin in the Celtic tiger years. There's been depopulation in many of our GAA stronghold areas. And in Ross District its been pretty chronic depopulation in most areas. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 18025 - 18/01/2026 12:22:37 2651572 Link 0 |

Seriously though, rather than giving out that we are miles off, come up with ideas to close the gap.
