Don't think dublin had 11 of championship team out today and even if they did you didn't mention that Cork beat them by 20 points in said semi final.i was at both games and the hurlers were a lot nearer full strength than the footballers. The footballers were a bit unlucky but were well beaten in the end. The hurlers were decent in 1st half but living on scraps in 2nd half. Overthebar53 Searching for crumbs again to blow up division 4 football and downplay the Division 1 hurlers… please check your stats on the Dublin players that featured today, should be easy as Dubs are top four team in Ireland 2025.. in fairness no matter what twist you put on it, it's written in the history books, as is Offaly's faith from last year, top 8 in bottom half in Irelaand, 2nd tier comp! No crumbs.. game almost changed on Kehoes goal chance.. hurlers have returning Paul doyle, Jack Mc, James Doyle, Chris Nolan,, Ciaran whelan etc.. Kev Mc and Paddy Boland (both played small part only), so a long way off full strength. First game in league v Down is massive.. Incredible side but going by the above comment I thought they had beaten Dublin out the gap. As you said hurlers with a stronger outfit out and a few footballers from yesterday won't see a minute this season. Anyway hope the hurlers will kick on under the new management team. I think it's well known on here that I like my hurling, but I think your post is very petty. The footballers did very well. Played a Division Two team, with an experimental line-up, and held their own. They seemed to tire at the end, so I am going to assume they were doing heavy training late last week. They had no Mikey Bambrick or Ross Dunphy (the hurlers had Marty, as it happens). The hurlers also put on good show. And hopefully they can build on it, under new management. My fervent hope this year is that the footballers get out of Division Four, and have a decent run this summer, while the hurlers retain their Division 1B status and compete for the Joe McDonagh. ps. Limerick mights be goats, but the greatest hurling team of all time was the Kilkenny side which won six All Ireland's in seven years, from 2006-2012. There is simply no question. Solid first half from the hurlers today. First 15 minutes of 2nd half was very poor which was the losing of the game. All you can ask for at this time of year is effort as training load is likely to be high. Some of our lads hurling may also be behind given club championship finished in August for all bar MLR. Nice to see plenty of so called fringe players and new faces get game time such as Niall Bolger, Conaill Fitzpatrick, Colm Beck, Eric English, Jack Tracey, John Doyle, Fiacc O'Toole, Tadhg O'Neill and Colm Kavanagh. Hurlers had a storming 1st half today. Dropped the heads 1st quarter of 2nd half. Dublin were impressive even though trying out a few newcomers. They had 5 players who played on the team that beat limerick last year .....they had Brennan, Smyth, Dunphy, Burke and O Dulaing. Not 11 players as stated earlier. But these early games are just good challenges and I think we did very well on our first outing as did the footballers yesterday missing about 8 players. More to come. Good luck to both" novalis If you've done your homework why leave out D Lucey, C O'Riain, C Donohoe, J Bellew R Hayes D Power played yesterday and against Limerick and cork as well, and some others that featured in Leinster championship. Eitherway at least the hurlers have eventually got some airtime on this forum. We had the new football manager hype last May which came to nothing. We're having phase 2 of it now so let's see if that leads to anything or just more hype without real substance. Unfortunately this thread seems to be filled mostly with those that will try downplay and chip away at our hurlers at every opportunity, despite the obviously level differences. Imagine the excitement here if the footballers had come as close to Dublin footballers last weekend, Remem dub footballers were beaten quarter finalists last year.. Maybe like some other dual counties we'd be better off having a Carlow Football forum and a separate Carlow Hurling forum on here? It wouldn't suit me as I have a strong interest in both, I'm more football than hurling being honest but I support both close to equally, but some posters nearly seem to be offended if football gets more comment on here which in my opinion is just reflecting the fact that regardless of how one team is doing (hurlers Div 1 v footballers Div 4) the big ball game is nevertheless the one that gets Carlow GAA people taking the most. It's a sore point but the big ball is the preferred within the county given the amount of clubs in both codes and hurling having a small presence in the town and none over the wicklow direction.
