But you'll still be hoping that Loughrea win it, won't you?

Having the lad red carded at the end is a blow to Loughrea. They should appeal it. Serious mistake by him. But hopefully they can rise above it regardless of any appeal. galwayford (Galway) - Posts: 2706 - 21/12/2025 20:04:09 2649128 Link 1 |

If it was a serious mistake by him then why should they appeal it? Camera didn't seem to pick it up but commentator certainly spotted it and his tone before card was shown indicated that player was in bother. Huge loss for Loughrea, hurled well today but Ballygunner look hungry to be regarded as a great club side and need a second All Ireland to be considered that Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 2508 - 21/12/2025 20:46:34 2649133 Link 1 |

There was no strike & it will be appealed. I'm sure Rogers will be involved in the appeal

Why were they not playing? Injuries? Are they both starters?

The commentator Mac Dara Mac Donncha, didn't certainly spot it. He was none the wiser like the rest of us, but said Johnny Murphy must have seen something. He was following the play when whatever happened occurred. Likewise his co-commentator. The only comment made was that Killeen didn't protest too much, but he looked in shock more than anything. The truth is, neither you nor I know what happened, unless you were at the game and happened to be watching them off the ball. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2671 - 21/12/2025 23:06:38 2649146 Link 0 |

Sounds like a fairly vacuous motivation 'to be regarded as a great club side'. Lads would want to be getting more enjoyment out of it than that, rather than worrying about who thinks they're great, or whether they're 'great' or not.

The worry is Loughrea need video evidence to get it overturned. Appeals process has changed dramatically in recent years. So, unless Loughrea have a camera themselves (or Slaugheil) that caught it, it won't be overturned.

I was at the match myself and unfortunately for Loughre he did strike him with the hurl. Two players were grabbing each other and killen pulled across the guys stomach happened right in front of us and the linesman too. Moment of headloss for the youngster who has been outstanding.

I was right behind the lrea dug out. There was no intentional strike. Cullen killeen is as honest a player you'd ever see no way was there and intentional strike. Wait and see what happens .....

Darren shaughnessy is Loughrea's best forward, ankle niggle kept him out. Shane o Brien was our best hurler last year. Back in contention to start again. He plays midfield.

Why would ref issue a red card if there was no strike and why did tg4 commentator get so animated before card was shown??

The commentator certainly changed his tone significantly when it happened and that was a few seconds before ref issued card. Not sure how you can say Macdara didn't see it unless you were told by him.

Being honest about it Loughrea could easily have had a someone sent off in the first half, a few yellow cards for head hits were lenient to say the least.

That's great especially if this Red Card stays in effect. They'll be needed against Ballygunner.
