Replying To martinjoe: "Now in fairness ye could not have got much better, at home to the lowest ranked team from last year in the opener, a team with zero points in div 4 and -46 score difference last year, surely you must be chalking down 2 points from that one. Anyway great to be getting closer to intercounty action and the slow return to longer evenings." Please Marfin you are mistaken thanks so much. We are not home to the lowest rank team from last year in the opener thanks so much. We are away to Wicklow please. This is all so lovely. Thank you millions

Tipperary and Carlow, much more difficult but we'd say another 4pts. Now we are on 8, what do we get from the other three games...Antrim at home, you have to get a result anyway and Longford too...we'll give it two draws, 10pts. Wicklow will be a tough nut to crack.
10pts and a good score difference should be enough for promotion,

Replying To LongBall94: "An update to the Leitrim panel for 2026. There may be future additions but at the moment this is where we stand.
From what I'm hearing the guts of the boys who have been asked in have committed and have been training in the last few weeks . This automatically means we have a far stronger squad then last year.
Saying all that theres still no Jack Gilheany, Jack Foley, David Bruen, Pearce Dolan, Mark Plunkett, Darragh Rooney, Keith Beirne etc. And Donal Casey has a long term injury. No word on Niall Walsh as of yet.
That leaves us without Casey and Foley who were our 2 best defenders in a struggling defence last year. Gilheaney would start at 6 but isn't commiting, unfortunately. Theres some loose talk that Bruen may be home early in the new year. That would be huge.
We're really going to struggle defensively from what I can see. I don't see a number 3 or 6 ready made for Inter county football.
You would hope that Poachers system and style of football can cover us defensively and then our talented forward line can see us through games." By all accounts Gilheany can't commit due to a reoccurring injury. From what I have heard due to the injury, he can't train full time with it for the club either.

London won't be an easy game over there. We always struggle with Longford. Wicklow away is a tough start.
We've lots of talent back in the squad but building from a low ebb from last year.
Promotion would be a serious achievement, but one that hopefully isn't beyond us.

A quick glimpse at the new report from the GAA confirms what I've been saying all along. We have too many clubs. The standard and quality of football is diluted as a result. Its time to face up to reality and restructure our entire set up. Better quality games and more often will improve our standards. The cultural and social aspect that comes with the club system can also be preserved.
We can and are producing quality players. They're playing slow, naive football from an early age and they're exposed when they go outside the county.

I don't think it's a simple task though. I do completely agree with what you're saying but there's so many factors to consider when looking to reorganising the structure, club rivalries etc. I do think however we could do with more in the development structure such as a regional competition like north v south Leitrim which would be a good chance for scouts to observe future talent over even an u23/4 competition like they have in Galway. I think development could be improved but I think there's easier ways than eliminating clubs. My personal opinion is that the county board don't want to put in the effort for any development

And if you want to merge clubs can you name out the ones you want to see merged there and we'll see how posters from those areas feel about such a thing.
I'll give you a hint, it won't be pretty.

I feel like most clubs would rather die on their feet than admit failure and join up fully with a neighbor. Backwards thinking if you ask me, we are way behind all our neighboring counties, I can think of at least 5 clubs that will be gone in the next 10 years if something does not change. Would it not be better to plan for it now and do phased amalgamations rather than lads finding out in January one year that they've no team?

Look at the number of double barrelled club names in Tipp for example. Also many youngsters playing for combined sides throughout their underage playing days.
