I have a feeling Clarinbridge will go close this year. TJ was the form player for Galway so he's coming in good shape with Gavin Lee. Good young defenders finding their feet in senior in Dylan Dunne and Sean Murphy."
Paul Hoban played the best game of his career against na Fianna and Johnny coen is as fit now as he was 5 year ago. Every year we hear the same thing about turlough and clarinbridge and every year we get the same thing. They're not good enough to get over the line. It's not all about talent. I would give cappy a better chance than the bridge or Turlough.

Cappy will never have had a better chance of winning the Co Cup than they had last year and they blew it!

I still have no idea how Sarsfields through that game away to Cappy last year. Can't see Cappy figuring in the business end this year. They will have their work cut out in the group. Sarsfields will be strong if Joseph is fit and on paper, Oranmore have better talent in their team than Cappy.

'through it away' …Cappy came from seven points down - on merit.
Sure, OranmoreMaree have plenty of talent but ' better' remains to be proven on the field.
Cappy are all right. Eight of the team were on the 2022 team that won the county u20 B and will be stronger this year (hopefully). Michael Garvey has a years training with the county panel behind him and Daniel Nevin is back from Australia.

This has to stop if we are ever to make progress. If you look at TIPP they introduced 3 or 4 u20 players and they backed them 100%. If Darragh McCarty were a Galway player would he have been backed ahead of Jason Forde on the frees and if he was sent off in one championship game not to mind two would he have be given game time again?
The difference between Galway and Tipp is the younger players are backed day after day to give them confidence to play with freedom.These players in Galway are in and out and as a result never develop or feel backed. Its a Galway thing as some poster said earlier

I agree. There is certainly bias in selection. I don't buy in to this "he's training well" BS. Brennan was galways best back this year. Also, burns was excellent against Dublin & dropped the next game.

There's another difference too, that you're choosing to ignore here. A BIG difference. Tipp were very successful at u20/u21 level in the past 8 years or so.

In contrast, Galway seemed to put all eggs in the minor basket 2015-2020, winning 5 all-Ireland in 6 seasons, but then spectacularly failed to hatch more than a handful of top class u20/u21s from that lot. As one might expect then, the transition to the senior level for those players has been underwhelming, to say the least.

Talking about bias etc is the usual old Galway guff. If a young lad gets introduced and plays out of his socks, you can be 100% sure he won't be dropped, regardless of where he's from. I haven't seen any such 'young lad performances' for quite awhile, and that is Galway's major problem. A lot of our woes stemming from generally abject u20/u21 displays/talent levels in recent seasons.

Are you saying that a new player has to play well in the league in winter / spring to be considered for championship hurling? And if he doesn't perform he's cast aside ? Because imo, McLaughlin, burns and Molloy should all have been starting ahead of Whelan concannon and k cooney all of whom were very poor this year.

I'm saying a good lad will usually stand out straight away. For example, I remember Cathal Mannion's NHL debut v Dublin in Salthill 2013. It was that good, you'd remember it. Molloy was impressive this year, versus Offaly and Tipp. He won't be dropped, if he keeps that form up. Burns, and particularly McLoughlin, haven't maybe hit those same levels that Molloy hit this season a few times. You start Burns, Molloy and McLoughlin in a front six, you need to find 3 big serious ball winning playmakers to complement their skillsets, and bring them into the game. That's a bigger challenge for us maybe than starting those 3 together.
