All Ireland Club Final, Kilmacud V Glen (Derry)

Replying To FoolsGold:  "Larry McCarthy and the Director general Tom Ryan showed poor leadership. Ryan uttered a few words during the week about if you change one game you have to make exceptions for all games to Junior F in Kerry. Silly point. An All Ireland final live on TV should have been with mentioning."
The GAA did show leadership. They did not interfere (as they could not in any case). There is a process for dealing with these issues. The CCCC could not initiate the inquiry. An objection had to be raised to initiate process.

As i have said previously there are procedures in place for dealing with these incidents.

Matches are won and lost on the pitch and not in the boardroom. Congrats to KC on thrir success. Record books will show that they are All Ireland champions for the 2022/23 season. Glen gave it a good shout and will no doubt be back.

There was no need for this sorry saga over the past few weeks. Its over now TG.

Let's enjoy the season ahead

That match was replayed as Clare sportingly offered the replay. The GAA facilitated it.

The Gaa and Crokes have come out of this badly both of these parties were at fault but none of them wanted to take any blame shame on both.
I only wished Glen should have waited until the CCC made there decision and seeing how Crokes reacted before pulling out, crokes have got of lightly here.

Replying To Ulsterman:  "You're reading it totally wrong. Glen DIDN'T feel they deserved a replay. Most of the players accepted the game was lost on the pitch and wanted to leave it there. However rules were broken, not intentionally by Kilmacud, but they had to be followed or the Association would have been a joke. When the GAA hierarchy sat on their a**e and looked the other way someone had to take initiative and that unfairly and shamefully was left to Glen. They've now been vindicated and made their point. They deserve all the praise and plaudits going."
If Glen didn't feel like they deserved a replay/forfeiture of the game then why did they appeal?

I don't see what's praiseworthy about appealing the game and then pulling out of the process.

Maybe they felt pressured into appealing by all the noise/furore in the media as well as the total inaction by the powers that be?

Replying To Jack L:  "They shouldn't have initiated one in the first place."
They had every right to initiate the protest. At the end of the day Crokes had 16 players on the field at the end. We will never know if that made a difference or not. At least the protest might make the GAA get their house in order.

Gaelic games don't have a governing body. The GAA consists of a series of committees, provincial councils, county boards: all with their own agenda. How many times have misdeamours gone unpunished by teams and individuals by appealing to various committees? The GAA have shown no leadership; there was no evidence of leadership in 2010 when Louth needed it and roll on thirteen years and there's been no leadership shown in the last two weeks when needed. I'll be accused of being anti gaa which i'm not but it is high time that the GAA showed some leadership when required outside commerical interests.

Once Glen began the process, they really should have seen it through.

Insisting on their own right to object but not allowing Kilmacud they own right to appeal is poor form imo.

The CCCC have the powers to initiate an investigation without an objection being lodged. They chose not to do so for two reasons. Firstly they felt that to do so would create a precedent and would mean that each county's CCC would then be in a position whereby they may have to do the same should a similar incident arise in club games. Secondly they felt that to initiate an investigation without an appeal being lodged would undermine the officials position as the ultimate arbiters of what happens on the field of play. Both of those are very valid reasons for the CCCC not initiating an investigation. The problem is that none of this was communicated to the general public by the leadership of the GAA. Failure to do do so was very wrong and reflects very poorly on the leadership. It created an information vacuum and we are all familiar with the tripe that filled that vacuum.

Ah come on, Kilmacud appealing was poor and it would have made up Glen's minds to let them have it as they must be desperate. How can you appeal not having 16 men in play when it's there in colour. Poor altogether.

I would have thought it pretty obvious that it was the sanction they were appealing not the fact that they had extra players on the park for a whole 7/8 seconds of play......

You must be part of the Croke Park committee.

They can't appeal the sanction. They could only appeal on a point of procedure.

It's all done now thankfully. Will possibly add a bit of spice to the Derry/Dublin game, although in fairness I don't think there is bad feeling between the two clubs, and there was barely an incident in the game that might have been described as nasty on either side, And well reffed too apart from the unfortunate conclusion.

The sanction is part of the procedure. They would be arguing that the sanction is too harsh for the 7seconds of a transgression.

How the sanction was reached and whether or not it is appropriate is a procedural issue.

Glen are a fine team and it would have been best for Glen to act on Malachy O Rourkes immediate reaction after the
match to accept the result. It was clear that there was an officating error in regard to the extra player for the 38 seconds
played. When it was clear that there was an extra player for that short duration, it was a pity that the referee did not
insist for the free to be taken again. However, in all probability if the free was taken five times it would not change the
result of the match.

We can argue over semantics but the sanction is arrived at as a result of procedure. I reckon we're splitting hairs at this stage. I'm going to stay watching the hurling.

So Crokes are champions again. . They won it and really once the GAA ordered a replay that stripped the title from them. They are basically reinstated again. Can't imagine a carnival atmosphere at the medal presentation.

People think Glen got cold feet. They began the appeal process but pulled it down at a critical point when the heat was on KC. Maybe they are trying to force KC into volunteering to a replay? I think they are not into having an acrimonious replay with KC. They are probably right.

They already partied for a week. Some people's grasp of psychology is rather tenuous!

I'm sure they'll have a good night at the club presentation dinner later in the year and no doubt the guff being thrown at them by self-proclaimed neutrals will give them an extra "kick". Brolly might present the medals
