As things stand at the moment if Andy Mcentee selected a team that were only from Ratoath & Ashbourne it would probably be capable of beating any other team that could be selected in the county! Obviously its a hypothetical situation, but an interesting one. MEATHTECH1243 (Meath) - Posts: 5 - 18/02/2017 16:32:08 1957964 Link 0 |
Not good prep alright but they all seem to b getting game time so they b ok come championship. Not like clubs who players only subs on county teams.

Meaning of the teams selected by yourself and rdunne above i would think could be stronger with Menton in as against Derry at 8 ,and Flanagan at 14. (less mobility required at 14 than 8). Flanagan not fit enough for midfield role yet. Hope to see him there in long term,as he looked promising before injury

I know Down are struggling at the moment but we can't be complacent after some of our performances in the last few years. If we get ourselves in front there can be no let up, no more giving away of good leads. Ruthlessness is a learned thing and in games you ought to be winning is good practice. Posting combined teams that look strong might seem a futile exercise but in reality it's pretty close to what the Kerry county championship is. Something to think about. goosey (Meath) - Posts: 63 - 18/02/2017 20:13:00 1958029 Link 0 |
That was only a joke team I picked without the ratoath and ashbourne lads.. I don't fancy Flanagan at 14 at all .. grahamc9897 (Meath) - Posts: 1176 - 18/02/2017 20:13:10 1958030 Link 6 |
Oh....i see that now......I would try to bring Flanagan back to match fitness by using him at 14 on a temporary basis only. I do agree he is a natural midfielder if he can regain full fitness. I would hope his natural fielding ability would be a help at 14 meanwhile.

You know my feeling in that .. Leave your fav player (Sheridan) in there for the min! Hes a better forward than Flanagan..just a better all round player.. grahamc9897 (Meath) - Posts: 1176 - 18/02/2017 20:37:02 1958046 Link 6 |
No.. i have nothing against Sheridan,as i dont know the man. I recall he was tried out before, and as he is late twenties now (open to correction here).i just do not see him making it now. However, if he gets the chance i hope he can prove me and others wrong. The ball is in his and others courts now for him and others to SHOW he is at the standard.

Does Flanagan play full forward for Clonard? I sometimes wonder if some people have any idea of what it is like to play and manage for an inter county team. Imagine A Mc saying to the lads, "we're going to stick Flanagan in full forward because he's tall and needs to build fitness, I'm sorry D. Lehnihan and B. Sheridan you have played well and are natural full forwards but Flanagan needs to play in your position to build fitness so we can eventually move him back to midfield". The mind boggles. " natural full forwards " well thats your opinion, and you are entitled to that of course. No doubt if any player in the last few matches had SHOWN to be a natural forward at this level then of course putting Flanagan in would not be appropriate. In that case you would not upset something that is working. Then Flanagan would have to wait to get to full fitness to return to Midfield which appears to be his "natural" position
