Full house 83,000 yesterday with Tyrone and Armagh bringing massive support. cuchulainn35 (Armagh) - Posts: 1688 - 06/08/2017 09:41:04 2029624 Link 0 |
I guess it's fortunate then that you cannot know how one sided games will be beforehand otherwise the GAA wouldn't sell many tickets. Not much of an atmosphere for a full house though. catch22 (USA) - Posts: 2148 - 06/08/2017 09:54:15 2029627 Link 0 |
easy to say in heinsite, when you looked at the fixtures and teams involved it promised two close enthralling games. Armagh and Monaghan just bottled it and took a spanking. Very disappointed with the lack of competitiveness.

68k+ at Tipp and Galway. That's an incredible crowd for a semi final. You'd usually require Cork hurlers or Dublin Footballers to have a population center that could bring numbers like that. Went myself as did many more neutrals - show's people appreciate good hurling. dahayeser (Cork) - Posts: 366 - 08/08/2017 10:22:54 2030840 Link 1 |
190k in croker over a bumper weekend. Massive turnouts, especially for the hurling. Jack_Goff (Meath) - Posts: 2920 - 10/08/2017 20:11:29 2032139 Link 2 |
I think the difference last Sunday was the Galway support. In 2016 there was 58k at the semi final between Tipp and Galway probably split 50 50. Last year there was 54k at the semi final with Tipp definitely having more support. Last Sunday I thought we had more support maybe 55%. More football people in Galway tend to follow the hurlers than the reverse if the other code is going well (mid fifties, most of the the sixties and 1998 to 2001 notable exceptions when our footballers were top of the pile). Probably because hurling is seen as a better game by marginal type fans and this has bigger impact in dual counties like Cork and Galway than one code counties like Mayo, Kilkenny, Kerry and most northern counties. You are right about Cork hurlers. They generate huge support when going well. I remember them getting big support until the tail end of the last great Cork team 2008ish. In the semi final with us in 2012 (after we beat Kilkenny well in the Leinster final) the attendance was onky 41k and we had good support after the Kilkenny win. Yet tomorrow it us expected to top 70k.

Kerry v Mayo could well get 60k. Talking to a county board man yesterday and he telling me tickets are selling fast. Up to 40k Mayo fans excepted to make the trip to a Croker next Sunday

Ya yew tree I'd agree with those numbers and I'd expect ye to outnumber us 2/1 next Sunday going by the crowd ye brought to Tralee in the spring . in fairness ye'r fans are brilliant and unfortunately a lot of our fans only go on the march for finals. I suppose we are coming from totally different situations....Kerry fans are used to seeing their county winning All Ireland's....Mayo on the other hand....we crave it so badly.

Over 72,000 at cork v Waterford ... is this a record semi final crowd ? hurler32 (Limerick) - Posts: 870 - 13/08/2017 17:49:01 2032822 Link 1 |
Massive crowd in the hurling today. Their attendances are up hugely on last year. A great championship too. Hurling attendances have really recovered and then some since the damage the kilkenny dominance did. Hopefully more teams outside the traditional big 3 win it like they will this year. You just can't beat the entertainment these lads have been giving us the last few years. And Dublin winning leinster a few years back was great too. Hopefully they make an all Ireland final before too long. Jack_Goff (Meath) - Posts: 2920 - 13/08/2017 23:58:11 2033018 Link 3 |
fantastic limerick support again of the 6500 crowd (thought myself it was more) there was 5500 from limerick, which is incredible support, absoutely putrid support from galway at 21s level again janesboro (Limerick) - Posts: 1502 - 20/08/2017 11:50:52 2035486 Link 0 |
Can't blame Galway people for that. 6pm of a Saturday evening is no time to have the game on if you expect supporters to travel distances. Thurles is not an easily accessible venue for most people living in Galway. They have to travel to Limerick first and then across, or else have to travel the bad roads and come via the bridge in Portumna. We had as many supporters as I expected we would have given the venue was Thurles.

We outnumbered Kerry fans 5/1....I'm Buzzing for the replay yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11551 - 21/08/2017 02:58:17 2035815 Link 3 |
5 to 1. That means there was possibly over 50k there from Mayo. Thats a serious percentage of a counties population to go to a match.

About 40k Mayo fans. Seemed to be alot of neutrals at the game too. A Dublin and Roscommon man were siting behind me.
