Said the same at the game in Castlebar. The attendance was roughly the same for the Donegal league game. I think people are bored with the current championship format at least in the early rounds. There are exceptions though....the Hurling had a great crowd. Galway v Mayo will have over 20,000 at it in three weeks time. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11551 - 22/05/2017 17:28:57 1989493 Link 3 |

Yes that was the official attendance but Under 16's were not charged so I don't believe they would be counted.

A minor football game at the same stage of the championship as a senior hurling game, both local derbys, with the minor getting more supporters is surprising (although there would be a stronger football following in Cavan per capita than pretty much anywhere else). cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5245 - 01/06/2017 11:43:20 1992979 Link 0 |

5600 for Ring/Rackard/Meagher Hurling finals wouldn't be too bad if they were played in smaller ground to improve atmosphere. I totally understand the players wanting to play in Croke Park however. christy sting (Derry) - Posts: 262 - 12/06/2017 10:34:13 1998320 Link 1 |

It would seem to me like the crowds & attendance figures for the hurling & football provincial championships thus far are up on the last couple of years. Any reasons why? keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 4088 - 13/06/2017 16:28:05 1999188 Link 0 |
Just speculating but there's been some interesting match ups so far this year in the Provincial championships. The hurling looks open this year. In the football Tipp Cork, Mayo Galway and Monaghan Cavan were all tight enough with the bookies, no favourite was shorter than 1-2. Going to be similar with Donegal Tyrone and Kildare Meath. You'd expect good crowds at the Provincial finals this year. Cork Kerry, Meath/Kildare Dublin, Munster hurling final should be a close game either way, Leinster hurling final is a novel pairing. I'd like a Donegal Monaghan Ulster final, I think both teams are more expansive now than recent years. Whammo86 (Antrim) - Posts: 4516 - 13/06/2017 17:04:13 1999212 Link 2 |

I remember the day of our county final last year, Dundalk were playing at home in the game where a win won them the title, and there were more than twice as many people at the Cavan final. GAA is still absolutely streets ahead of all other sports in this country and will continue to be for years to come! cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts:2562 - 01/06/2017 11:43:20 Cavanman Monaghan have played Cavan 3 times in the last few years ....twice in Breffni and on each occasion Monaghan supporters outnumbered Cavan's.....to a very great extent particularly on the 1st 2 occasions ....maybe that comes with a winning team ! Yeah probably. Sky sports subscriptions appear to be down also, might be contributing small to people having more money to go to live games. Whammo86 (Antrim) - Posts: 4516 - 14/06/2017 16:35:13 1999654 Link 3 |
