Serious crowd in Castlebar tonight just under 11,000. I watched a game with a county treasurer recently who told me the match attendance does NOT include juveniles but does include OAP's so at that rate there was probably 14,000 there tonight. Louth had over 25,000 supporters when they reached the Leinster final in 2010. If you are living in South Meath or North Kildare there is great rivalry between these two. Looks like there were great crowds out for the start of the league this weekend, showing that supporters will come out when they are likely to get competitive, meaningful games. All four divisions have teams that are well-matched, and despite the myth that "the league isn't important", most managers are fielding strong teams, with a few newcomers working very hard to get noticed. MacHale had an official attendance of just under 11,000 last night but there was probably 15-16,000 there. Just home from Breffni, had to be over 21K ive seen smaller attendances in Croker. Thanks for the hospitality lads, had a great day and you were brilliant hosts, pleasure to spend time with yee today, one of the most welcoming and knowledgeable counties when it comes to football. Donegal played Down at Breffni in 2013 and it was wedged, definitely at full capacity. And the attendance was only reported as 21,700. A Cavan man told me last year at the Monaghan game that the 32,000 on wikipedia is nonsence and the actual capacity is only 24,000. But in reality it must be even less than that. Yeah the 32000 is wrong. It's more like 25000. It's been more wedged than it was yesterday so I'd say there were 21000 - 22000 there. Don't understand how they can't count u16s coming through the turnstiles. On this wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_stadiums_in_Ireland_by_capacity it says Breffni has a capacity (safe) (?)of 26000 and seated 6000, so maybe adding them together is where people get the 32000 although I'd say it's 26000 total.
