Serious crowd in Castlebar tonight just under 11,000. hurler32 (Limerick) - Posts: 870 - 04/02/2017 23:15:19 1951957 Link 1 |
Meath v Kildare should draw a big crowd. Two counties who have big following plus its a derby match always brings out more people.

Meath and Kildare have a big following when they are winning. I'd say they would be lucky to draw 6000 to a league match nowadays

Sure most counties have big crowds when they are winning. Louth had over 25,000 supporters when they reached the Leinster final in 2010. If you are living in South Meath or North Kildare there is great rivalry between these two. Some great clashes down through the years most notably the three game championship saga in 1997.

It's coz they don't count u16s. Breffni holds about 25000. It was pretty full but I was very central in the terrace and there was some space. I'd say 21000 or thereabouts. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5245 - 05/02/2017 18:03:26 1952213 Link 0 |
4000 people in Newry for Down v Fermanagh. bennybunny (Cork) - Posts: 3917 - 05/02/2017 19:09:15 1952263 Link 1 |
Looks like there were great crowds out for the start of the league this weekend, showing that supporters will come out when they are likely to get competitive, meaningful games. All four divisions have teams that are well-matched, and despite the myth that "the league isn't important", most managers are fielding strong teams, with a few newcomers working very hard to get noticed. In many ways, the league is more important than the championship for all bar a few top teams. football first (None) - Posts: 1259 - 05/02/2017 19:30:02 1952287 Link 1 |
Your right there. MacHale had an official attendance of just under 11,000 last night but there was probably 15-16,000 there. Great crowds and seems some grounds have more people in them than the qualifiers. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11551 - 05/02/2017 19:32:09 1952292 Link 3 |

Donegal played Down at Breffni in 2013 and it was wedged, definitely at full capacity. And the attendance was only reported as 21,700. A Cavan man told me last year at the Monaghan game that the 32,000 on wikipedia is nonsence and the actual capacity is only 24,000. But in reality it must be even less than that.

Yeah the 32000 is wrong. It's more like 25000. It's been more wedged than it was yesterday so I'd say there were 21000 - 22000 there. Don't understand how they can't count u16s coming through the turnstiles. Surely even from a health and safety perspective they should know how many people are in the ground. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5245 - 06/02/2017 10:55:52 1952603 Link 0 |
On this wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_stadiums_in_Ireland_by_capacity it says Breffni has a capacity (safe) (?)of 26000 and seated 6000, so maybe adding them together is where people get the 32000 although I'd say it's 26000 total.
