What about having to sit a year out if you want to transfer clubs? It doesn't do anything about the sanctions but would surely cut down on transfers. It might encourage lads to give some serious though before deciding on a club here.

just interested to know, what is in it for the money men. How do they recoup or profit from this. There is hardly much exposure to generate much revenue for sponsors. If you say that clubs are willing to offer, accomodation, flights, etc. Where does money come from and how does it help the club if they become more successful on the playing field. there are no TV rights. Are gate receipts increasing . What we are talking about here is professionalism for want of a better word. because you are away from home there is no onus on you to play for your "home county club" so you play for who-ever pays you the most as you have no allegiance.

Tomsmith here I can tell you what is in it for a quare few of them and that is that they own Bars, Real estate agency's , or construction companies in the USA. To won the local championship is a great feather in their cap and it will be talked about in that city that such and such a person who owns a particular business and as such it helps to sell his wears. The 100,000$ that they spend on the imports from Ireland is a pure commercial venture. Would you find many of these sponsor out training under 18 in Van Courtald Park, Gaelic Park or Canton on a Saturday in October or Feb, March. Most of these peoples only input is to get a set of Jerseys and give directions to his Hostelry after the game

Played in New york for two summers 1999 and 2000 the money men at the time were Kerry,Donegal,Leitrim and Cavan....

I kicked for clare in Division 1B we tried to match the bigger teams and had a few county players including Crok's michéal Cronin who trained us and u21's from armagh etc...We brought out players for the summer and just for weekends and the standard of it was very high back then..

Can't think of the guy over Leitrim but he had a stake in Fiona's/Jimmys bar at the time....

Pat Scanilion was over Clare back then.

The reality is the only thing you can do is to catch them at it and report it. Probably be difficult but it is your only real option. Or else you can limit the amount of players with intercounty experience per team.

The reality is these guys are wasting their money. If they invested it in gaa in their community, they would be far better off.

Played a bit in 03 for Donegal. We had Fionnan Murray from Cork, Paul Finlay from Monaghan and Liam England from Tipp.
I was over on a J1 just. They got me sorted with a job and a few couches to crash on for the summer.
Leslie McGettigan was the 'big guy' those times! He owned Fagans, many a big night was put in there!
Great times!

It would be very interesting to know what attitude that these money bags have in relation to the team that the take players away from in Ireland with the promise of big money and send them home in first week of September Drunkards/ injured ect and let the home club pick up the pieces. If the home club in Ireland gets relegated or looses a championship would the Bar owner/estate agent/builder in the Us care one bit
If transfer fees are to be involved let the club that trained these young fellow get that fee and let the players work for a living in the US for the summer.
Let the agents/ contact persons in the clubs in Ireland ( who pinpoint the players) take no money for the work that the do ie phone calls to the Us setting up the transfers ect.
Every club has these sleepers in its midst who set up the transfers out of the club to America money bags and I feel that the GAA should offer an amnesty to them to come clean and say what is exactly going on with transfers for years ie pay for play

The man who is now backing Donegal, if you were to look at his facebook account, he is making no attempts to hide the amount of money he is throwing at the players. Maybe that would be a good place to start the investigation…

Nycavan man while I have sympathy for you I have to say that I raised this matter many years ago when the fellows left Cavan and us still in the Championship and I got little support . Most of these money bags are silver tongued when Croke park personnel visit America . I just wonder what the Croke Park people that look after the american scene thinks of pay for play? Do they know it is going on or is it a matter of turning a blind eye to it
