it's a disgrace alright but look we've been through this 100 times and it's been going on for years. let's hope a Leicester city (barnabas?) can come through and show them the money doesn't matter

Junior B- Barnabas and Celtics you would have to say would be the best.
Junior A- very unpredictable with the three new teams. Rockland might have a strong team coming up from Junior B and Donegal.
Intermediate- Cavan
Senior- Donegal

Intermediate will be the most interesting division. Even though Cavan have combined to one team they still lost a huge amount of players but will be competitive. Longford and Westmeath have big notions but neither ever won junior A to advance and that baffles me. Rockland jumped out of junior A a few years ago and have yet to impress in playoffs at intermediate level. I believe winning junior A should be the only way to advance and that's why I think Brooklyn will win inter final. Barnabas won Junior A and won Inter two years later. Atmagh the same thing. That's the way to advance properly.
Senior is just too much to handle with Donegal looking unbeatable just on line out sheet alone. Monaghan will fall short in Final if Kerry don't catch them before that. Cork and Barnabas will not impress. It's just a bridge to far for them.

You never know with cavan how they will do. For rockland they always seem to bring in alot of guys but never can get over the hump.
Atleast barnabas is goin up to senior and give it a try, unlike alot of the irish teams that win inter and then fold right after. Only to come back 2 or 3 years later

Donegal have been out training 2 days a week now, besides the boys training for NY team, so they will be in right form come championship. Monaghan have spent a good amount of money (from what im hearing) and will be the only real team to give Donegal a challenge. The one thing I will say about Barnabas is, the have spent most of their lives playing together. They know each others strengths and each others weaknesses. I am a firm believer in a team wins championships, so I'm hoping with Barnabas knowing each other so well and winning Junior A and Inter championships together, that they can cause a real stir in Senior. We all know players move around quite often here, but it takes time and getting used to playing with each other to really make a "team". Barnabas already have crossed that hurdle and I believe have the full support of NYGAA fans here both homegrown and people that have kids involved in the underage set up. As far as Inter, Westmeath have made some good pick ups and if they can get all their players to buy in and dedicate themselves, they will be a force to be reckoned with. There are a few in Inter that can win it, will be competitive for sure. Junior A will be interesting to see how the 4 new teams will set up. Donegal will have a strong panel for this division also. They are training with the Senior team. Junior B is anyone's guess. Barnabas and Celtics will be there or there abouts. Just hoping for a good season and commemoration ceremony this Sunday in the park at 12 should be very nice. All clubs here in NY are to be represented with a person wearing the jersey, wreath laying ceremony and reading of the Proclamation. Here's to another GAA year in NY!!!

NY GAA on its last legs is right after opening day. Donegal and Monaghan streets ahead of Kerry and Cork. The question is will these teams even bother to get stronger. Donegal will be unbeatable and haven't even started brining in the top players yet. If they see danger they will load up.
Monaghan looked good especially the back line were solid. Bad one sided games to say the least

All in all a sad day yesterday in Gaelic Park. We just witnessed the beginning of the end of Senior Football, writing has been on the wall for a few years but final nail was just driven into coffin. Final might as well be played next Sunday. As in the movie Field of dreams " Build it and they will come" . Unfortunately development coming too late and no one will be coming. Sparkling new building and no teams. Too easy just to blame the Board, same problem that destroyed football in other cities has now done it here. What a terrible price to pay. Very depressing day.

not much to report yesterday, cork and kerry are making up the numbers. would kerrys game have been much better had they had wherity and mccartan? hard to imagine it would be. donegal mighty strong and mighty fit. very early on but hard to not see a monaghan donegal final unless they loose focus and end up pitted in a semi-final against each other

its a disgrace what is going on... at this point they should just have senior matches during the week and have intermediate on Sundays.... I would rather go watch Junior B football at this point. At lest last year the Junior B and A division had some great matches. there needs to be a change in the board

there is nothing the board can do. the board can only limit player movement for 2 years. they will never be able to prevent transfers as croke park would never allow it. they cannot stop teams from spending, offering jobs to lads from home. the only hope is cork kerry and barnabas say enough is enough after this year and regrade to inter

Was down in New York for the weekend and visited Gaelic Park on Sunday. The pre-game ceremony was well organized and it was downhill after that. The three games were pitiful and it does not bode well for the NY board. The lack of competition in all three games was unbelievable. Refereeing also leaves a lot to be desired. Same tired bodies on the field year after year, looking the part but lacking the instincts necessary for the job, and no new and younger individuals being given an opportunity. Read with interest one of the earlier posts and it says transfers can only be curtailed for two years. This is incorrect as it can be for any length the board decides on. The number of transfer players on each team can also be limited. The present group of officers found ways around these rules and in some cases did it to benefit their clubs. The rule limiting a player to a transfer once every two years was deemed not to apply to a player who had transferred from a club in Ireland the previous year. The rule limiting each club to seven new players via transfers was also deemed not to include inter-county transfer players. The reason given was that Croke Park would not approve these limits. However these rules have been on the books for years and only in the last two years have the interpretations changed. One of your officers club received seventeen intercounty players in 2015. Rules here in Boston are tailored to our needs and Croke Park understands and approves of our special need for specific rules.
Regret to hear that the Kerry senior football team here in Boston has called it a day.

All i can say about Sunday, was that the teams were just showing up to get the players that needed qualification in this years championship for NY v Roscommon got the game played. We all know Donegal and Monaghan loaded up their teams so Kerry and Cork just made up the numbers against them. I am really hoping this wasn't just a preview to what the summer holds for us in the NYGAA. I was at the ceremony for the 1916 Uprising, and while it was nicely done with teams being represented, i felt the advertisement for this event should have been so much more then what it was. People i talked to around McLean Avenue didn't even hear about it until Friday or Saturday, and this being such a huge event…..ah well, it was a nice ceremony all the same. Who are your pics for the other divisions this year: Inter - Westmeath, Junior A - Donegal, Junior B - Celtics…..

Some good games in the park yesterday .. Westmeath walked over Kerry.. Westmeath look like they will be hard to beat this year. Mayo beat Rangers by 4 or 5. Mayo picked up a few good players since last year and might push on and get into the playoffs.. Sligo and Longford drew at 11 points a piece. Going to be a different story if Jamie Clarke is with them.

Good crowd in the park, aided by the Scor NY being on inside. Great to see a strong turnout in this competition with a lot of talent on show.

On the pitch, Longford and Sligo played out a competitive game, with some wayward shooting. Westmeath look good. Tough times for Kerry.
