I couldn't find the thread for Cavan still not fielding a hurling team in the two tier Ulster championship announced today, thought it would be 30/40 posts deep by now, but strangely not!! bricktop (Down) - Posts: 2503 - 10/11/2015 16:11:23 1806050 Link 0 |

Mes, Nice one! Personally I think it should be left up to the clubs in KK to decide if they want to put the resources into a football team. In Meath, hurling is definitely treated as 2nd class. The promotion of hurling in most counties varies from poor to non existent. When you hear the response to hurling matches on Sky from abroad, it demonstrates that we have a unique game that fascinates people. My late father always said the a bad game of hurling was worth 2 good games of football, something I tend to agree with. moylagh (Meath) - Posts: 486 - 11/11/2015 09:48:32 1806251 Link 0 |

The national obsession with how Kilkenny people choose to spend their leisure time is quite frankly bordering on the disturbing. Personally, I'm not bothered if Longford people love lawn bowls, or if the people of Sligo absolutely live for tiddly-winks, but Kilkenny people's pasttimes seem to be a source of immense national angst. We should be "forced" to play football apparently. I myself play a 7-a-side soccer game every week and try to go for a walk most days, but if it helps placate the great people of Ireland, I will give up these activities and devote my entire free time to playing Gaelic football, and will instruct all my friends and acquaintances to do likewise. ballydalane (Kilkenny) - Posts: 1258 - 14/11/2015 08:48:21 1807177 Link 0 |

Its that dismissive attitude to football that makes me disappointed that our Leinster Championship game v Laois/Wicklow has been fixed for the football wasteland that is Kilkenny city.I dont think the local economy deserves to make a fortune from a game they show zero interest in.Wont be getting my "hard earned" few bob anyway. cuederocket (Dublin) - Posts: 5084 - 14/11/2015 09:59:42 1807193 Link 0 |

But cue, surely having "da doobz" playing a championship football match in Kilkenny would be a huge promotional boost for the game in the city and county? Coercing the people of Kilkenny to play Gaelic football and bloody well like it must be made the number one priority of the Association, nay, the Government right now. General election is coming up soon, I think the major issues on the door steps will be in no particular order; ballydalane (Kilkenny) - Posts: 1258 - 14/11/2015 11:18:49 1807210 Link 0 |

There are counties & areas within counties in Ireland every bit as hurling mad as Kilkenny. These counties just happen to contain football areas too - which Kilkenny does not have. Hurling is our National Game & goes back at least a couple of thousand years here. If a spaceship landed & saw kids with hurley sticks they would soon conclude that they were in Ireland! The game should be flourishing throughout the country, not at Gaelic football's expense, but all GAA people have a responsibility towards it's wellbeing - so lay off Kilkenny! keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 4105 - 14/11/2015 11:51:02 1807221 Link 0 |

How ye spend yere free time ballydallane is nobodies business.I've nothing but respect for Kilkenny and its hurling culture. However playing one football game in the city wont change Kilkenny peoples attitude towards the game.I'd be surprised of you do.Most of my fellow Dubs seem to be looking forward to the trip.Doesnt sit well with me though.I think Laois/Wicklow were shafted and no way Kilkenny should have got a big football game.Kilkenny has no time for football. cuederocket (Dublin) - Posts: 5084 - 14/11/2015 12:08:39 1807224 Link 0 |

Do yo really think a football match in KK was designed to change KK's attitude to football? Its not some alien sport that they've never witnessed before and despite all the buzz about Dublin travelling the likelihood is that this will be a one sided borefest. Hurling matches were played in Dublin for years despite their attitude to hurling. ZUL10 (Clare) - Posts: 710 - 14/11/2015 13:24:07 1807237 Link 0 |

There has always been hurling played in Dublin zulu.We may not have been successful on the national stage but there has always been a competetive hurling club scene. Not a good comparison.Kilkenny have NO TIME for football.J White/Kilkenny poster regularly reminds us that they prefer handball.Kilkenny does not deserve a bumper football pay day. cuederocket (Dublin) - Posts: 5084 - 14/11/2015 13:51:39 1807245 Link 0 |

Kilkenny are doing a might good job in promoting Gaelic games, do remember Hurling is part of the games too. They are admired and complimented throughout the country by sports people and business people of all persuasions. Cop yourselves on and encourage your own counties to be nearly as successful at whatever ye participate in. Kilkenny concentrate on hurling because they are brilliant at it. I see absolutely nothing wrong with that. Perhaps more counties should try to copy them and see where it takes them! westisthebest (Galway) - Posts: 444 - 14/11/2015 15:45:27 1807270 Link 0 |
