~Biggest Bottlers of the Decade?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Mayo by a country Mile.

Two Finals TWO hammerings.

Definitely not Armagh One All Ireland and 7 ulsters....isnt that something like 6 more titles than Mayo...maybe more?

Possibly Armaghgeddon, if you know nothing about GAA.

OK, a team that could be winning all Ireland's but is consistently failing?

Well it has to be said but only one team truly fits that bill this decade, and I know it may be the wrong time to say it, but that is Waterford. In the top 3/4 all decade this is their first final, having managed to lose to Wexford and limerick the two years they were expected to maybe go all the way.

Definitely the Dubs since about 1997 on. Mayo never had it to bottle it.

Mayo ... by a long shot ... it's a given ... in fcat the title of this should be "Biggest Bottlers (except Mayo)"

Ya i know but the fact is they have come up against the might of the kingdom all 3 times. And i know before you say it ye beat us bla bla bla. I think you have to admit mayo have had more of an impact than ye in the championship over last 10 years.

i have to laugh at the armagh posters, must be sickening to see your neighbours getting further in the all-ireland series and all your "coveted" ulster titles mean absoulutely nothing in the scheme of things when watching in the chair. I will be in croke park cheering on my county in the minor final samin, where will you be? i will give you a wave on the telly. Maigh Eo Ábu.

In the period from 2000 - 2008

Mayo: 4 Connacht wins, 1 NFL win, 1 U-21 win - Achieved with what most people on this board and around the country consider an ordinary bunch of players.

Armagh: 7 Ulster wins, 1 All Ireland, 1 NFL, 1 U-21 - Achieved by a team that most Armagh and Ulster people hail as one of the great teams of our generation.

Absolute bottlers Armagh. Let's look at the players you had - McConville, Hearty, Bellew, McGeaney, Toal, McGrane, McDonnell, Clarke, Marsden.

Now go on with yourself and get back to your bottle factory.

ill give him a wave too but only during the minor match ive better things to be doing at 3.30 than watching tyrones demise

saddam fair play to you, maybe see you there, give a wave to ballboy he will be watching on his plasma that the dubs paid for :) i am not one bit sickened, do i wish it was armagh, yes. But my conscilation is that it is not mayo and therefor it will be worth watching. i have family in tyrone who i have went to alot of trouble to organise tickets for, so all being well i will be there cheering them on against both mayo and kerry, although i might not bother with the minor game cause its already a certainty that tyrone will win that.

Keane how do you figure? big deal we have come up against the kingdom 4 times in championship football over the past 8 years, unlike mayo we have managed to beat the kingdom. if getting to a final and then getting slaughtered in the final is an influence on the championship then you are right.

1999 ulster chapions beaten narrowly by eventual champions meath in all-ireland semi final
2000 ulster chapions beaten after two and a half games by eventual champions kerry in all-ireland semi final
2001 beaten by eventual chapmions galway in quater final by a point
2002 ulster champions, Beat tyrone, donegal, dublin and kerry on way to winning all-ireland
2003 beaten narrowly in all-ireland final
2004 ulster chapions beaten by a point by fermanagh
2005 ulster champions and beaten by injury time point by tyrone in semi final who went onto win well against kerry in all-ireland final
2006 ulster champions, well beaten in the end by kerry who went onto win all-ireland at a canter (might as well been the final)
2007 poor year
2008 ulster champions well beaten in end by wexford

now compare mayo's for a laugh, got a couple of handy runs to all-ireland finals and got humiliated.

keano thats priceless, first of all you compare trophies, not much of a comparison. then you list players who apparently in 2002 were over the hill and finished, catch a grip man.

if bottlers mean underachieving then i agree we should have won more all-irelands. personnally i think bottling it means getting to the latter stages and completely freezing ala mayo 2004 and 2006, getting completely humiliated which is something that never happened to armagh.

I'm sure samin10 has better things to be doing than watchin Mayo clowns waving from Croker during a minor match.

samin10 - you asked somebody to compare Mayo's All-Ireland record with the Orange Order Armagh. Right so, I surely will young lad:

Mayo: 3 x Senior
4 x U-21
6 x Minor
11 x NFL

Armagh: 1 x Senior
1 x U-21
1 X Minor
1 x NFL

You're not really in the same league as us Kiddles. And what's funnier is that you blew the only top-class panel you ever had by being bottlers.
