After hearing of Joe Kiernan's comments that Sunday's final would of been better played under a closed roof (no question it def would of been a better game in dry conditions). sliotharfan (Galway) - Posts: 87 - 23/09/2015 18:36:39 1791558 Link 0 |
Will not happen, exceptionally cost prohibitive and the stadium layout is not favorable to such an addition, I would have gladly got wet to my bones if my county was in that final last Sunday. Richieq (Meath) - Posts: 3748 - 23/09/2015 19:02:54 1791568 Link 0 |

I think Gaelic footballs problems are at grass roots level, not the roof! ZUL10 (Clare) - Posts: 708 - 23/09/2015 20:04:43 1791584 Link 0 |

Only way a roof can be put in place is if hill 16 became a stand and a second tier was put in place and that wont happen and isn't needed ormondbannerman (Clare) - Posts: 13473 - 23/09/2015 20:24:49 1791589 Link 0 |
Come on lads, let's get realistic.. AthCliath87 (Dublin) - Posts: 345 - 23/09/2015 20:29:20 1791591 Link 0 |
MesAmis is right these are outdoor sports, the conditions are part of the game. As for the roof aside from the fact one end is open. Also I would imagine given the relative sizes of pitches in all sports Croke is a rather large area and fitting a roof would be extremely expensive. arock (Dublin) - Posts: 4954 - 24/09/2015 08:14:46 1791637 Link 0 |
I reckon the stadium would need to be rebuilt. Maybe the next time around. I wonder do the GAA have a plan for 20-30 years from now. Who know's what the advances in tech and building will be but I imagine Croke Park in its current guise will be quiet outdated by then. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11594 - 24/09/2015 09:05:27 1791646 Link 0 |
Whatever about a roof covering the whole pitch, it is ridiculous in this country that the roof does not cover the entire seating area. We were at the front of the Davin on Sunday and got soaked to the skin. I didn't mind too much as I was happy to get a ticket, however a woman and child beside me left their seats after 10 minutes and didn't return. 80 euro is a lot of money to spend on a ticket, maybe the GAA need to look at a different pricing structure for children and uncovered seats rather than the one price for all pricing structure for finals. bubba83 (Dublin) - Posts: 333 - 24/09/2015 09:07:15 1791647 Link 0 |
I think in general roofs on stadia are good. slayer (Limerick) - Posts: 6480 - 24/09/2015 10:00:20 1791676 Link 0 |

When it rains just put joe on the roof DoireCityFC (Derry) - Posts: 1580 - 24/09/2015 10:18:50 1791687 Link 0 |
won't happen, too massive, unnecessary and would involve Hill16 end built up, which they'll never get planning permission for. also, if you're going to any outdoor event anytime of year in ireland, bring appropriate clothing. the GAA are responsible for many things, the weather, alas, aint one of them Gavvygavgav (Dublin) - Posts: 383 - 24/09/2015 10:19:21 1791688 Link 0 |
It would be fantastic to have a roof added it would obvoiusly make for much better games. But it will not happen for reasons mentioned above. Hill 16 would need to be completed like the rest of the ground. sligoNo1 (Sligo) - Posts: 45 - 24/09/2015 10:19:28 1791689 Link 0 |
Even if there had been a roof, I doubt it wouldve been closed for Sunday as rain wasn't forecast. Don't see the point at all. Breffni40 (Cavan) - Posts: 12372 - 24/09/2015 10:19:49 1791690 Link 0 |
Agree with Bubba, crazy that so much of the lower tiers, which should really be the best seats in the house were left uncovered. benched (Tyrone) - Posts: 534 - 24/09/2015 10:25:42 1791693 Link 0 |
Haha read the 1st post and thought yeah a roof on Crocker would be a great idea. Then read on and agreed with guys saying the game is an outside sport and wet cold conditions are all part on the game..;) Players should be able to cope and adapt basically.
