Would Down consider an outside Manager?

I'm surprised nobody has tried to tempt Pat Gilroy into management but not sure if the man has other commitments that keep him away from the game.

Yeah Slayer, Gilroy is tied up with work commitments and lives in London I think.
We were lucky to have him for a couple of years.

Has Banty said "I do intend to go back into intercounty management some time..." yet?

Down did go for an outside manager - McCory is a former Armagh player, and this was always against him..... but the way he was treated on the Sunday Game was awful.... you cannot image a Dublin or Kerry manager being treated with such ridicule...

Down are a team in transition - but with a host of established players ( Rodgers, King, Coulter, Rafferty, Comiskey, Clarke. etc) he was up against it - and he achieved success in the League getting promoted... should have won the League 2 Title had it not being for an awful refereeing decesion... ( McCory or Down County didn't blame referee)
In the championship.. they lost narrowly to Derry - again a poor referring decesion and a poor Sunday Game analysis....
Against Wexford they lost a game Down Gaels expected to win, and this is when the knives came out..... His reluctance to use Benny Coulter and Benny 'reports' that he isn't retired added fuel to the controversy.....
But the reality McCory added some new players including the young goalkeeper from Kilcoo who is a class act.......
MCory was appointed about this time last yr... but he was still involved in the Club and then Ulster Club championship.... BUT he wasn't the first choice as Mc Entee and O'Neill had originally agreed to take the post but after prolonged negotiations on a Saturday morning they pulled out when the financial package wasn't right.... so there it goes one of Ulster's strong powers will be 22yrs since they won USFC......
5yrs ago Down reached an All-Ireland Final - how many of them played this yr - massive turnover....history wll judge that McCory was unlucky, should have been given another year....

Whoever it is I hope he goes back to playing a style of football more in keeping with the Down tradition. No point Down trying to copy their neighbours style when it is something that their supporters don't seem to enjoy and their players seem incapable of playing and physically unsuited to.

Jim just realised that polishing the proverbial turd is a lot harder than he had envisaged.

Spot on analysis cuchulainn35. McCorry not given a fair crack of the whip at any stage. Who would want the Down job now when the County board treat their managers like that?

The under-age structures are a joke too. We're nearly getting as bad the Antrim county board!

Down won't go back to wee Pete even if he's free.......

What people don't realise is that if Down were able to put their best 15 and their best subs out they would be a serious force......
all depends who the manager is....

Tough job. Will be hard to stay up in Division 1 and they have only reached the quarter final stage twice since the qualifiers began.
