Tyrone wins of '03, '05 and '08 are overstated.

Gormley, Jordan, Ricey, McGinley & Dooher wasn't it MichaelO? You are correct that a few of the subs in 2008 played in 2003 as well but really thy were 2 b=very different teams. Think Red & Black is overstating things a little but I have often wondered if, looking back, the incident between Jordan and Marsden sours the first All-Ireland win for Tyrone supporters at all. I know it was a team with a win at all costs mentality but that was an embarrassing and pitiful incident for any neutral who loves the sport.

Hugh not really..the defeats hurt at the time just like Cork losing to Kerry did this year.
cant see it bothers me or most other Kerry people anymore. would have been nice to beat Tyrone but bar 2008 when i think kerry management decisions cost us big time the other defeats we were beaten by a well oiled machine in Tyrone.

It was a great decade to be a Kerry supporter...if the last few years have done anything is that it reminded me how lucky we were in that decade for all the AI final trips we got out of that team. Win or lose it was always great craic.

redhanddefender Ill be in croker. As mentioned before i go to most tyrone games. I played for st.columbs college, steelstown, wellington gaa 08-14 and Sinn Fein in melbourne 02-08. 1 school, 3 clubs, 3 countries and adding a fourth to the list soon depending how good their corner back is.

I am still a paying member of both Brian Óg's in derry and st.endas in tyrone

Come find me in croker for a pint sure. ill be the only person in the premium level (which i hate) with a derry top on i reckon

P.S I only watch premiership games if i go to the games live. More a rugby fan and will prob miss the AI this year as ill be at the world cup again. I know......shame on me for liking several different sports......next ill be saying i dont go to mass

I will not come looking for you, you will whip out your google and start downloading some pointless statistics or ingredients to prove how the Guinness tastes better in derry than it does in croke park. I can actually think of nothing more boring than listening to you drivel on. Its clear you aren't a gaa man so the back story makes sense.

Can't people just elave the 00's as they are, in another 10 years someone will be drooling over how good they were compared to the 2020's like redandblack is now, longing for his childhood days. Great teams involved and some great clashes.

Can't speak for all tyrone supporters but can safely say nothing can take the gloss of what were probably some of the best days of our lives despite what the jealous folk think!

How did Armagh ruin football? I never thought they were much of an advocate for the blanket defence, they were just the first team to really take cynical tackling to a new level (notorious 3rd man tackle) but overall they were an absolute joy to watch at their best. Brilliant skills on show right through the team, just take a look at the highlights of the '02 final and tell me if there's a blanket on show.

I'm a big fan of Down football and really enjoyed their run to the 2010 final but I'd tend to agree with whoever said the majority of Down supporters seem to have a bit of a chip on their shoulder. Some really fine footballers in that county and it's just a pity that the supporters seem to have a sense of entitlement about it all.

Greatest Team of all time. Imagine if they hadn't been scourged with injury and loss how many more All Irelands they would have won!

Its not a chip on our shoulders. Its an assertion about how these teams ruined the
game as we all knew it.I was very happy for Donegal when they won in 1992 but
less so in 2012.Why???Because they won brilliantly in 1992 but in 2012 they
won ugly.

I think there are many that are in the ulster vs rest brigade who fail to see the poison
Armagh/Tyrone etc brought in the 2000s because they are Ulster teams. You have
to call a spade a spade. It was ugly and unpleasant to watch and it has been to
the detriment of football.Period.

I'm not one for Ulster v the rest, and I can recognise the tactics Tyrone brought to the game were shocking to many and the same again with us v the Dubs in 2011. The fact you think we won ugly in 2012 says a lot about how you view the game, though I'm sure the Ulster final looked ugly from where you were sitting. But to my point on Armagh, maybe I've a skewed view of them because they always destroyed us but again, I never felt they were advocates of a blanket defence or any other suffocating style of football. They were hard footballers, willing to commit cynical tackles and off the ball type stuff but when it came down to it they played brilliant brilliant football.

JoeSoap its not that Down havent won anything in a long time . We have had
a long time to get used to it.It was the way Armagh/Tyrone destroyed the game
that really irked me.For instance had Tyrone won in 95 they would have
deserved it.But the tactics of the 2000s do not merit glorification.

I still maintain that 2005 final was the greatest I have seen. For Tyrone to go from zero all Ireland wins to 3 in 6 seasons was immense.

Not overstated. Their wins plus Armagh's 2002 win changed football vastly. Credit where it is due.

Very easy for Kerry to make all-ireland finals when they basically have one tough game in Munster, they can focus on peaking for Croke park. That Tyrone team had Armagh as challengers in what was a fantastic Armagh team, they also had to progress through some very tough assignments in the qualifiers, showing outstanding mental strength & resolve. A lesser team couldn't do that. That Tyrone team had everything and it was one of the best teams i've ever seen. Does that mean Dublin are no good because they couldn't reach the final in 2012 and last year after winning finals? stupid thread.

I see the end of the road for Tyrone this weekend as they exit the championship which they never could win this year based on their irradiate performances during the season. I think they would be more at home in any new second tier championship arrangement until they demonstrated that they are capable of being up there among the elite counties of present day football. I see this Saturday as a wake up call to them to and when they return to the hills let them think about a new management setup that can bring any future team into the modern game.

The fact that they beat Kerry twice in the AI Final plus in a Semi Final along the way to me they are not over stated.

Plus they also beat Armagh in a final and a Semi Final too.

Fantastic Teams.

2003: I give Tyrone full credit for their win over us in the semi-finals. As a new challenger they were raising the intensity bar. Full credit to Armagh for getting to the final as they attempted to retain their title.

2005: I'm shocked by some of the comments on this final. Kerry dominated the early stages and had Tyrone's measure. The Gooch got a poke in the eye and was effectively out of the game after that. After that incident, Tyrone got back into the game and went on to win. It's disgusting that poking one of the best players in the eye would swing a game in someone's favour. The Tyrone supporters were disgraceful after the game. I and many never saw anything like it. Armagh '02 and Dublin '11 were dignified in victory. A combination of the Gooch getting a poke in the eye and the unsporting and un-GAA like reaction of the Tyrone supporters did leave a sour taste in the mouth. That's the honest truth for anyone genuinely wanting to know the real crux of the matter.

2008: Great effort by our lads as they unbelievably attempted a 3-in-a-row. Tyrone were awesome and fully deserved winners. Far better performance than in '05. Tyrone supporters in my experience were good after the game. Possibly a maturity gained over the preceding 3 years.

Beginning to sound like the cork county board legendz....sad. That Tyrone team were the real legends. We never had a group of players like them and I doubt we ever will again. And I am just referring to Tyrone teams. We had a fantastic journey with them and are very proud of their achievements. Fantastic tussles with our neighbours. Memorable games with the Dubs. Stood tall against the mighty legendz and beat them 3 times. From never winning an all-Ireland to winning 3 in six attempts is a remarkable feat. Who do you think you are to even suggest that their achievements are overstated. Armagh and Tyrone have massive respect for each other. Dublin and Tyrone have massive respect for each other. Tyrone people have massive respect for all that Kerry have done. Can't you lot even acknowledge that maybe that Tyrone team was a wee bit above average

In fairness the Gouch wasn't playing midfield in 05.He faded in game as supply of ball stopped.Tyrone 05 campaign was exceptional considering they played 10 championship games including semi final when beat Armagh in their prime which was probably best game of football along with 05 final in last 10 years
