Over the last 25 years it has been extremely difficult to reach back-to-back finals, let alone retain an All-Ireland football title or make the final the year after. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8772 - 05/08/2015 15:43:43 1764493 Link 0 |

Made me giggle, I was late this morning because I met a traffic light which turned red outside work. Not the fact I was lazy and could not get up on time. Poor Tyrone having to meet and beat a previous winner inagine that. sam1884 (UK) - Posts: 999 - 05/08/2015 15:54:14 1764505 Link 0 |

I agree Tyrone totally overrated like the Kerry team that won finals against the likes of Mayo and Cork who left their heads at the M50. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11557 - 05/08/2015 16:04:57 1764517 Link 0 |
I actually agree with Liam for once. Witnessed them in the McKenna cup final in 2004 and they were awesome, I'll never forget the football they played that day. I know its only McKenna cup etc etc but the skills, vision and passing were a sight to behold. I said that day that they would win the next 5 All Irelands or be very near to it. Unfortunately the man who lifted the cup that day Cormac McAnallen left us only a few weeks after. benjyyy (Donegal) - Posts: 1428 - 05/08/2015 16:09:51 1764525 Link 0 |
Fair play Liam. Jeez did we really get under the skin of them Kerry boys or what. What a stupid thread Redhandsam (Tyrone) - Posts: 93 - 05/08/2015 16:14:15 1764530 Link 0 |
That was heart breaking to see Cormac there, like young Aaron Devlin, taken too soon. brendtheredhand (Tyrone) - Posts: 10897 - 05/08/2015 16:16:05 1764532 Link 0 |
Tyrone are heroes of the anti-Kerry brigade. I accept that. Armagh made back-to-back finals and won more Ulster titles that decade. Tyrone failed three times to make a final the year after a title. Everyone knows how difficult it is to retain a title. It is some effort by any team to even make the final the year after a title. Definitely bowing out with their boots on. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8772 - 05/08/2015 16:23:07 1764540 Link 0 |
Lol.The most begrudgery ever espoused on Hoganstand comes from a Kerryman about the Tyrone team of the 00's.....proper order is restored and all is well in the world again. Lol seanie_boy (Tyrone) - Posts: 4235 - 05/08/2015 16:24:24 1764541 Link 0 |

If that tyrone team were overstated or over-hyped as winners, then you can justify absolutely anything. Donegalman (None) - Posts: 3846 - 05/08/2015 16:40:05 1764554 Link 0 |
Best matches I've ever been at were the 2005 and 2008 finals. Eddie the Exile (Monaghan) - Posts: 1199 - 05/08/2015 16:50:24 1764564 Link 0 |

In 2004 they tragically lost their captain and one of the best players in Ireland So_it_is (Fermanagh) - Posts: 40 - 05/08/2015 17:11:18 1764585 Link 0 |

I have to admit at being shocked by claims being made regards begrudgery. Nothing could be further from the truth. I made a fair statement in my own humble opinion that certain wins have been "overstated". I backed up this point with fair examples. If people disagree it is more than fair enough but claims of begrudgery is absolutely ridiculous and doesn't bring anything to the debate. It's an easy get out clause from discussing the matter at hand. When Tyrone beat us in an amazing display by them in the '03 semi-final, noone could have foreseen Kerry winning more All-Irelands than Tyrone between '04 and '09. For the record Kerry won 4 and Tyrone 2 in those six years. It is always the place of challengers to offer a challenge and raise the bar. Armagh and Tyrone to their credit did that. Kerry had the response. Donegal as new challengers in 2012 to their credit raised the bar again when the beat us in the quarter-finals. Kerry again have responded to a challenge. Great teams respond to challenges. It's what sets them apart. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8772 - 05/08/2015 17:42:09 1764611 Link 0 |
what i found great about them, was that when they really had to, when it was needed most, they did the right thing, at the right time. A real sign of a great team Liamwalkinstown (Dublin) - Posts: 8166 - 05/08/2015 17:48:06 1764618 Link 0 |
