Dublin V Armagh : challenge match

That's exactly it! I understand people may say Dubs are protecting their own interests, and yeah, they are right. But it took 12 days to launch an investigation. That's surely a disgraceful scenario, considering the injuries inflicted. And why, because the media forced them to. So now there are many calling for lengthy bans.

My issue is that these incidents should have a zero tolerance. If they happen the GAA should be all over them. But that's not the case unfortunately. Now it's a witch hunt. Dublin will be effected by this, and why, because the media demand it?

Like a boy ends up in hospital, and after 12 days of speculation and hearsay, the CCCC decided that the incident warranted investigation. It should have been investigated immediately, and punishments should be swiftly issued.

Now both teams have played, many of those involved in the incident played last weekend, and many are out of the championship. So now realistically, if any bans are imposed, it looks like anti-Dublin punishments.

GAA making a balls of things like usual.

Firstly, this is not an unusual incident in GAA, many of us heavily involved know this as its covered up at all levels of the Association. If I were to type all the incidents I have seen this post would never see the light of day. Only for the persistence of the media on this matter it would have been swept under the carpet.
Secondly, the nod & wink culture is been exposed. It has taken 12 days to pass before any investigation & people such as the the ref, Jim Gavin & Kieran Mc Geeney all have questions to answer. The CCCC also as we are lead to believe that this game was sanctioned as it has to be under rule prior to the game taking place, why did they not act.
Thirdly, it matters not a whit what county is involved, this is about the reputation of the Association which is viewed by many new parents thinking of starting their kids at GAA as one of an Association who turns a blind eye to serious assault. All the online hard men will say its a mans game etc, yes it is but no fella is a man or a sportsman if he assaults an opponent who cant go to work or college the next day. What if he was your son, brother etc that was assaulted. If we are going to be this ambivalent to violence as the Association is nationwide then we are going no where fast. Next up will be a law suit against the Association for its failure of duty of care to its players, wait & see.
Finally, the standards being set at local level & national level where players are handed down a disciplinary sentence, its appealed & cut back hugely, are farcical. You see county boards who are supposed to oversee disciplinary procedures at local level running off to courts & appealing sentences handed down to county stars, double standard hypocrisy. There are supposed to be records kept of disciplinary procedures but I know that even when you go to see what sentence has been handed down for a particular offence you cannot get any information. There are loads of rules but they are not been implemented or else ignored. This is a scandalous story & one of hundreds every year in GAA. Shameful really.

I heard the Armagh boy required a bit of hospital treatment as well albeit not as much as Byrne!

Uimhir.a.3.

Agree with most of what you posted. I think the parties should have been punished. The gaa had 9 days to investigate, review and dish out punishments before both teams involved played another championship match.

They done nothing. Bans to Armagh players are meaningless. Bans to Dublin players are going to effect their championship this year. Westmeath could have done without playing 4 or 5 Dublin starters.

Waiting 12 days to decide to do something is terrible. I wouldnt praise the media for their part in this. If Carlow played Clare in a challenge game there would have been little or no appetite to pursue incidents that took place. The reason its newsworthy and theres a rush for heads is because Dublin players may be eligible for punishments. We must be careful to not have a discipline system based on media slurs and outside agendas.

What about Cork's Jamie O'Sullivan's elbow on Dermot Connoly in the league final in front of linesman and referee and nothing happened. So called big investigation by the CCCC and no sanction. So i think the whole process is wrong.

Not that I tend to take much heed of stuff written in The Sun but they're saying that Dublin and Armagh have been issued with the findings of the report and both teams have been hit with fines. Doesn't mention any suspensions/bans.
