Minutes silence in Semple Stadium

(Oldest Posts First)

What sort of clown start shouting during a minutes silence? Have we really turned into English soccer fans? You could hear shouts of "Up Tipp" and "Cmon Waterford" on the TV. Also teams breaking away before our National Anthem shows a total lack of respect. Views?

It was disgraceful given the death of one of the countries finest hurlers and that poor lad who drowned so tragically in Thailand.
Imagine what their families must be thinking.
Utter disgrace that they cant shut up for 60 seconds.
That,s the problem with drunken clowns on the terrace at least if they were in a stand surrounded by normal people with families they wont be such hard men to hide behind a mass wall of a crowd.
A minutes applause should be done instead of a minutes silence.

As for the National Anthem sure we never hear the end of it anyway cos its always drowned out by the crowd roaring half way through before its over!!

I prefer the one minutes applause rather than the silence, it will at the very least drown out the fools we saw yesterday. As for the English soccer fans comparison, any minutes silence I've seen of late has been impeccably observed, lets not pretend that this is anything but an Irish issue right now.

No, these are not English Soccer fans, they are Irish GAA fans, probably with drink taken.
Minute's applause will probably become the norm soon.

Isn't appluase completely innapppropriate after a tragic drowning though? I cringed when they applaued that yesterday.

In fairness, maybe some of the noise comes from outside? Sometimes on your way in, you don't realise what's going on inside.

Dubs applauded the Harris brothers and Berkley victims.I think a minutes applause is just showing respect.Id rather that than minutes silence.

I agree with that sentiment entirely, I would think that for a tragedy silence is the most appropriate (regardless of the potential actions of some people).

Yeah I know drink is a problem alright for a minutes silence. It was a bit like yesterday Ger Canning saying how great a young bunch of Westmeath fans were for jumping up and down and cheering when getting hammered when it was clear they were twisted.

Not yesterday culchie it came from within the ground and even while the PR man was announcing there was going to be a minute silence lads in both terraces were already shouting.

I think a ban on terracing would be a good idea as its mostly young lads and drunk lads that cause this sort of nonsense.

I heard one lad roar Up the Swans ( Carrick Swans in South Tipp ) & another lad in the Waterford end Comon Lismore.

Disagree with the point that a minutes applause is cringing it happens in the UK at soccer matches and its never an issue.

The minutes silence is never respected. the first time I actually heard the minute silence in full was couple of weeks ago for the Berkley tragedy at the Tipp v Limerick game. You could hear a pin drop and at that point I was thinking have some fans turned a corner but obviously not.

Agreed, the whole crowd stood as one and applauded that day I thought it was quite moving actually and the applause in the 16th minute was also 100% observed and credit due to those who organised that, I think applause is a good way of celebrating a life.

I was at the final. It was the Tipperary end and a very small minority of Tipperary supporters that did not respect the minutes silence.

Thought what the Dublin fans done clapping for minute for victims was a lovely gesture indeed and emotional . Fair play to them

And a small minority of the Waterford supporters. I was sitting in the old stand down near the Waterford end and you could clearly hear
the shouting from both sides. They have no heart and no head.
When someone in the Waterford end shouted Comon Lismore there was a Lismore man sitting beside me and it was not very impressed. He whispered no guesses who that is as to remonstrate that he could actually tell the culprit.
