Roscommon out!

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

pundit quigley is a great player but by his own standards he hasn't been outstanding this year. A handful of times he has played exceptional, Antrim on the second day out. When he is on form he really is a lethal finisher. I actually think his best position is out on the 40. He has a great eye for a pass. I'm just saying that Fermanagh aren't a one man team. Quigley was kept quiet on Sunday and Fermanagh still won. At half time i was shouting for him to be taken off (i got that one wrong)

Roscommon struggle with expectation unfortunately, its something to his credit Evans is clearly trying to change. They probably should have won an All Ireland u21 in the last 4 years having got to 2 finals and 1 semi final.

Look at results the last few years in championship, from nearly beating Mayo which they should have done last year they then go out to Armagh with a really tepid performance. This year a really poor performance against Sligo then led to a comfortable win against Cavan with little or no pressure on them. This leads onto to Sunday when most people though they'd win comfortably.

Evans deserves another crack at it next year, it will be tough to keep them in the top division although I feel they stand a greater chance than Down. They should be better prepared for the championship next year and given some of the players at their disposal they are capable of making the quarter finals.

They do have some serious young players in E Smith, D Murtagh, Harney & Corcoran.

Roscommon have come in for serious stick mainly from their neighbours in Mayo who have become obsessed with them.

The last ten minutes in fermanagh last sunday were a shambles, ros players were like headless chickens, team prep and situation prep must be questioned here, all ros had to do was kill the game, go down injured, pull down a fermanagh player, all in for a pull and drag, the way kerry do, the way mayo learned to do this year against galway, when fermanagh got the point up they killed the last minute with a black card, that said we should not over react to that defeat, we have made progress this year, now we have to consolidate our position in div 1 (it is a big ask) but our players will be a year older and wiser and we have several more very good young footballers to come into the reckoning, we need a defence coach and a tackling coach, some new eyes on the sideline but leave evans there, we are a long way from where we were a few years ago, the last and most important thing we need is a little bit of luck, any team that were ever successful had it, people say you make your own luck but I dont know, watching football for over 50 years I have never seen an unlucky team win anything but I sure have seen some very lucky teams in that time.
