I came across a funny wee page on Wikipedia ( i know its not 100% ) DoireCityFC (Derry) - Posts: 1580 - 10/06/2015 15:34:35 1735234 Link 0 |
It's total rubbish - proven by the fact that Cavan who have 5 All-Ireland's and a million Ulsters are one place ahead of Fermanagh who have won neither. Brolly (Monaghan) - Posts: 4472 - 10/06/2015 15:42:33 1735238 Link 0 |

Fair point put if you read the article its not about winning the most cups. If it was based in that ireland wouldnt be third in the rankings for rugby. Its a different style of a rating system. I cant think of a more fair way to call it but instead of calling it rubbish how about say how they can improve it? DoireCityFC (Derry) - Posts: 1580 - 10/06/2015 15:48:51 1735244 Link 0 |

In other sports' world rankings, the winning of the biggest prize is weighted heavily, not the case here which is very very silly. SeppBlatter (Dublin) - Posts: 187 - 10/06/2015 15:52:51 1735249 Link 0 |
How many teams on that list do people think would be beat by a team below them? Usually a good way of judging accuracy in a ratings system i guess DoireCityFC (Derry) - Posts: 1580 - 10/06/2015 15:55:35 1735252 Link 0 |
Again Sepp fine point but the intention was to find out the best system not just blast one that's in place. Love the feedback all the same :) DoireCityFC (Derry) - Posts: 1580 - 10/06/2015 15:57:21 1735254 Link 0 |
Would Kerry not be on top as they have the most all irelands? BigBallerSize5 (Fermanagh) - Posts: 61 - 10/06/2015 16:04:38 1735258 Link 0 |
No its not a table of who has won the most all Ireland. Take a sec to read the page. Its based on lots like home/away, the competition, how many points you lose/win by etc DoireCityFC (Derry) - Posts: 1580 - 10/06/2015 17:23:00 1735305 Link 0 |
I think it's made by the same lad on boards.ie , laoisman I think his name is . It really is an excellent indication of where teams currently stand . There's a scientific formula for calculating points transfers . You get more points for beating a higher placed team , margin of victory , home or away etc . I think it's very accurate and the guy that done it put a huge amount of work into it . It's hard to argue with it . Hardtimes (Cavan) - Posts: 1056 - 10/06/2015 18:08:42 1735337 Link 0 |
surely this is based on this season alone. looking at the wiki page there is another table that lists the length of time a county has spent at number 1. this is an interesting table and probably truely reflects the strengths of counties over the last 90 years. s goldrick (Cavan) - Posts: 5522 - 10/06/2015 18:31:05 1735346 Link 0 |
Yeah nice of them to start in 1925 when we had already won 7 of our 9 Ulster titles. As such I say a load of aul ballicks. Offside_Rule (Antrim) - Posts: 4058 - 10/06/2015 19:42:39 1735366 Link 0 |
Does a county get the same amount of points for winning a game in division 4 as winning one in division 1? So for example you were a steady division 2/3 team you may end up better off that a team who get promoted to division 1 but then get relegated back down? There is no division in world rugby? sportsfan14 (USA) - Posts: 281 - 10/06/2015 20:03:18 1735375 Link 0 |
Offside if you read the page there is a reason why the started in 1925.........but I still think antrims place is a decent reflection DoireCityFC (Derry) - Posts: 1580 - 10/06/2015 20:18:21 1735380 Link 0 |
Sports fan there are divisions in world rugby. The European 2nd tier is below the IRB. The likes of holland and Spain are in it. And yes it's equal points for each division. It means a team gets a chance of winning points against an equally based team but still have to prove themselfs in the champ where points are worth 3 times DoireCityFC (Derry) - Posts: 1580 - 10/06/2015 20:21:59 1735382 Link 0 |
And the reason dublin are above Kerry..........Although Croke Park is not the official home venue of the Dublin County Board, it is treated as such, as 88% of all home games played by Dublin between 1925 and 2014 have been played at this venue (99% of championship fixtures and 81% of league fixtures).
