Sunday Game negativity

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

The difference between the hurling and football HT skirmish is the ref dealt with it in the hurling. But don't know what some of you where watching. Its simply not true to say no one on the RTE condemned the incidents before hurling half-time Cyril Farrell made a point of it the fact youngsters coming on had to witness that. Also on playing negatively
The only problem with football is the referee's and how they control (or mostly don't) the game and the fact most football fans have a persecution complex so bad that they can no longer see or hear what is in front of them. For instance all the hurling panellists and the match summarizer pointed out the negative play in 1st Half.

Pretty hypocritical of Joe Brolly today. That aside much ado about nothng though signs society has gone completely soft given some of the reaction. Cannot imagine Marty Morrissey will be crying hiself to sleep tonight.

Marty wont be crying himself to sleep tonight and I wont be watching the Ulster championship on RTE either. Joe Brolly is a nasty piece of work. He is being highly paid for all the crap thats coming from him. Oisin and Phillip. two very impartial gentlemen who say it as it is. The ref today was a lot better than last Sunday.

Joe Brolly is no oil painting himself. He should have a long look in the mirror.

Border Gael I would be of the opinion that a good bit of the negativity and nastiness about the game, teams and players has been influenced by the Sunday Game studio.

i agree ref did deal with it as their was a clear strike which was actually the linesman spotted.
the panelists did say it wasnt nice but micheal lester didnt go to town on it like he did last weeks incident.
they glossed over that their was negative play and in fairness to shefflin he did say if it was football we would be going to town on it, but its more the fact that how bad the first half was will almost be forgotten in most newspaper or pundits analysis of the game
instead focussing on overhyping an ordinary enough second half into a rip roaring affair.
The problem is the agenda the media outlets and newspapers seem to have
they should be applying the same level of analysy in both codes
instead of only having an agenda to focus on the negative in football in their columns and analysis

There was no negative comments on yesterdays football because both teams went about there business as you would want. Hard but fair and no mouthing and messing around. If the two teams in last weeks game approached the game the same way there wouldn't be any negativity either. Last weeks game got negative press because it was a negative game. This weeks game was played in an entirely different spirit.

Pundits are paid to say what they see in front of them. Cyril Farrell and Ger Loughnane throw out the same old cliches every day regardless of what they see in front of them. Give me Brolly over those two any day. Spillane, we could all do without.

As I predicted you only have to look at the irish times today to see the contrasts
"Limerick luck in 100mph Munster thrust"
"Monaghan creep past Cavan in bruising Breffni Park encounter"

The best thing to do in these circumstances is to either go to the game yourself and watch it, or chose a broadcaster other than the rte to watch the sport. Double standards are something that you dont have to put up with, unless you like complaining. I have gone past the stage where I would tune into the rte for the pantomime factor a long time ago. They have great panelists on the sunday game night time show, lads that know the game and analyse it properly. But the 3 that are on the live show with the likes of carney commentating, it is just 'puke broadcasting'

Joe Brolly comment

What did people think of Brollys comment re Marty Morrisey? Personally I thought it lacked class and was bang out of order. If this was Sky/BBC his job would be under huge threat but again he as escaped sanction. Overall the football analysis on the Sunday Game needs a revamp. Brolly is still going on about the Jim Mc Guiness era with various stories while Spillane just shows random scores to beat the blanket defence. Anyone else find Shane Curran bang out of order with his view of London in the championship while Mc Stay felt Dessie Mone didnt deserve a penalty due to his past. The hurling is streets above the football and the football analysis is just boring.

On a lighter note and with apologies for straying slightly from the topic, I enjoyed these contributions on the radio from Brendan Cummins and Anthony Daly respectively.

"Clare really have their GANDER up".

"The Under 21s stepped up INTO the plate".
