What new rule would counter blanket defence ?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I would introduce two new rules:
1) No 'double digit' shirt numbers are ever allowed behind 'own 45'. Vioation results in opposition awarded a '45'.
This would be easier to referee than saying a max of ANY 9 players can be defending the goal.
2) Award a 'Super Score' worth 2 points, for kicking a score from 'outside the 45'.

Both good ideas.

How about an attacking player receives a footpass in the opposition half, from play not a free, from a player within his own 40, can only be marked by one defender. If opponents try double or treble team they concede a 40 or free from where the player wins the footpass. Would speed up play out of defence and would encourage more spectacular looking Omhant 2 point superscores by benefitting attacking play from footpassing.

Make referees accountable for stupid decisions. 4 men surrounding a player is obstruction to start with, and how many actually tackle for the ball?

Refs need to punished for not awarding frees to attacking teams.

referring has to improve and be a lot more consistent..limiting number of players in your own half isnt a bad idea or maybe just the number that can be near the box so there is more space..everybody nowadays just floods the middle at the end of games to ensure a goal isnt conceded

In the fourth match against Dublin in 1991, Meath beat the blanket defence with a beautifully crafted move which ended in six consecutive handpasses and Kevin Foley's famous goal. Limiting the number of handpasses would deprive us of such spectacles and would help lazy defences who would have fewer attacking threats to counter.

where did i say such things?..i said it was an overreaction..obviously the game isnt perfect but its not exactly in ruin either...a few little changes here and there be nice..it wasnt puke when meath were doing well royal we know..you told us enough times

Omahant, if your first rule was to be implemented, it would mean that a team could never make a substitution in the defence or midfield as the player coming on would have a double digit number and therefore have to play as a forward. In ludicrous situations a team could have 0 backs and 12 forwards.

Meath never ever played puke football, it is the preserves of the nordies, add in Roscommon and a few others and you see why this cancer has to be cut from the game.

a lot of the stuff over the last few years that meath have been playing would be exactly what i would call puke...lumping the ball in aimlessly to tall forwards and hoping for the best..even playing a goalkeeper outfield in the full forward line!..or who can forget carrying the ball over the goal line...puke indeed..im not sure what that display against the dubs last year was...crap i think would be the best term to describe it

Fabio8. Is that you age?
I never see any meath Poster speak of 90s.
Time to get over yourself and whatever anti meath agenda you trying to peddle.

In fairness to Dublin they didn't pull any of the Meath players down in that move. Doubt if it would have been the same if it was the other way around.

How about numbers 1-7 should not go outside their own half and the same with 10-15. Midfielders shud be the only roaming players on the pitch....

This is the area I would look at, A starting point should be changing/implementing the rules to favour the player in possession, Think punishing the ref might be a bit harsh though their performances should be scrutinised more

When I say punish I mean they should be taken from the next round of league/championship games. Players get dropped if they aren't up to it, refs should be no different.
