Henry Shefflin retirement

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I know there's no word yet on his decision but I think we probably have seen the last of him in that Kk jersey.
I could be wrong but can't see him deciding to stay on and would be a good note to bow out on having won another all Ireland inter county and club. If he were to play on he would likely only play a bit part and come on for 15/20 minutes.Interesting to hear what the Kk posters think.

They should put up a statue of the great man outside Croke Park when he does retire.

I think he'll stay. I think he would be crazy not to. At the most, it's only 6 more months of training and he's fit anyway. A serious chance for another Leinster and possibly an All Ireland. He'll be long enough retired.

Why start a conversation on this when we don't even know, people "think" but then say "I could be wrong" what a load of nonsense, keep conversations like this held over until the man makes his decision and give him the respect and time to do that.

What's your issue with discussing a topic that a lot of people who are hurling fans will be talking about up and down the country.
There is no disrespect involved and trust you to put as negative a spin on it as possible. If you don't like the topic then don't post a response and keep it to yourself.
As for you waynol ,you should probably stick to posting other peoples replies as most of yours are pretty simple.

Because it's not a topic until the man decides if he wants to retire, he hasnt made that decision yet and until it's made I don't think topics with headings of "Henry Shefflin Retirement" should be put up, that's my opinion and I'm entitled to respond any way I want, lots of people stay quiet about things they don't like in this country which is most likely why we are in the state we are, I choose not to stay quiet. And what's this "trust you" lark, have we tussled over issues before?? Discussion on Shefflin retiring will be relevant if and when he decides to retire, I see no reason to preempt his decision.

You are entitled to your opinion as am I to put up a topic I think hurling people are interested in.
As for speaking up and and all this stuff about the state we are in, well that's neither here nor there. This forum is for discussing gaa matters which is what I'm trying to do and there's no nonsense about it thank you very much.

Henry Shefflin is a superstar of hurling and I have admired his skill and ability for years so don't try to suggest disrespect to try and strengthen your argument.

No nonsense here either, you said I shouldnt respond if I didn't like the post which I feel is pointless, the very reason you should reply is if you disagree or don't like something. I'm not a protestor or an anarchist I just like speaking my mind, plus I'm half a kilkenny man through my mother and have been involved in the game so I have plenty of interest and knowledge in the game and the matter at hand. My point is that we shouldn't eulogise the man until his decision is made, I don't think that is an unreasonable belief to have

I'm not eulogising anyone and simply asked if people thought he would bow out as it is a hurling question that people I speak to are wondering about too. You can pass comment without this 'what a load of nonsense' lark you came out with earlier.
I also have Kk relations not that that should matter either way.

Are you a hurling person Dubh_Linn ?

What qualifies you as a hurling person ? If you mean do I play the game , well, not any more.

Do I go to matches and travel to support my team, well, yes I do.
Do I like to try and discuss hurling matters with people who are interested in hurling ,well yes I do.
And I don't think asking the question I did will offend too many people or sway Shefflins mind one way or the other but as we are on a gaa forum I really don't get what the problem is.

Are you a hurling person ?

Very good post. He will be retired forever once he decides to go down...he has a lot of the hard stuff done for this year. They say it is nice to go out on a high. It is in theory, however, I am sure these guys must love the process (training etc) as much as the winning itself. I hope he stays on.

Yes Monica, good point. He could indeed do another season I'd imagine and with long evenings only around the corner could well be tempted. With Kk building a new team and a lot of young guys being tried he would be a great presence. Its the fact I don't think he'd enjoy only a bit part which is what I think Cody would be using him for from now on that could sway him towards bowing out.

for me I wouldn't have Henry as the best of his generation, jj delaney would be best hurler from these kilkenny teams for me. Shefflin wasn't bad either now to be fair. Retirement would be right for him at this stage, offered very little last year On the playing side of things

I think Henrys time has come to retire. His legs are gone.Young Cathal Barret made him look his age in Thurles last year. You could see in the club final his old power was gone as he got caught in possession a few times. If an average Kilmallock team could do that, what chance v Cork,Clare or Tipp on a hot summers day?Not much to be fair. You owe us nothing Henry.

Have to agree.. JJ was the greatest in my opinion. Would have loved to have seen him get his tenth All Ireland this year (if Tipp weren't to win obviously).
Shefflin wouldn't have his haul of medals without JJ on the team, but I'd argue that JJ would have got most of his without Shefflin.

I feel Eddie Keher was the best player I ever saw. He played for eighteen seasons with Kilkenny and seemed as good as ever towards the end of his illustrious career
