Was it around 96 or 97 that Meath and Offaly played a couple of epic clashes? I remember one really high scoring encounter that ended in a draw. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9746 - 12/09/2014 12:40:01 1651300 Link 0 |
That must be the 1997 LF Lockjaw, Offaly beat Meath 3-17 1-15, don't think it was a replay! realdub (Dublin) - Posts: 8744 - 12/09/2014 12:55:59 1651309 Link 0 |

I was in the Park for the 1989 final bennybunny! Only Cork final I've ever seen. Picked a good 'un! hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 12/09/2014 14:03:16 1651328 Link 0 |
Sorry yeah I got the games confused. I remember the drawn Kildare games alright. Yer man Devine was as cool as a cucumber slotting over points to get Meath back in it. Wasn't there a forward called Claffey who did the damage for Offaly against Meath in the final if my memory serves me correctly? Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9746 - 12/09/2014 14:41:28 1651346 Link 0 |
Yeah that would be Vinny Claffey, a fine player! realdub (Dublin) - Posts: 8744 - 12/09/2014 15:12:30 1651354 Link 0 |
Bennybunny, isnt your question slightly oxymoronic itself, for how could we forget the game you mentioned,if barely any of us have seen it? cuederocket (Dublin) - Posts: 5084 - 12/09/2014 15:14:33 1651355 Link 0 |

Yeah I think the 97 saga between Meath and Kildare is often only a afterthought of 91 4 in row with dubs. However I have often thought that the quality of football in those Kildare encounters were higher. They were some games. Jody what a performance. What a pity it isn't on archives just to show what a epic efforts were put in, that second game would rank right up there as the greatest game of all time between what could be described as the best two teams in country at the time. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 12/09/2014 15:39:52 1651367 Link 0 |

1985 All-Ireland Hurling Semi. Galway upset Cork in front of only 9 000 or so in Croker. Lashed rain all day, and all during the match. Think this was also O'Hehir's last match commentating. witnof (Dublin) - Posts: 1604 - 12/09/2014 16:30:38 1651399 Link 0 |

I haven't watched this in years, but I remember Sligo v Tyrone in the last 12 in Croke Park in 2002 was an absolute stormer of a game! Sligo went on to lose to Armagh in the quarter finals, and Armagh went on to win the whole thing. Texas (Donegal) - Posts: 163 - 12/09/2014 16:52:14 1651410 Link 0 |
