Armagh media ban

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Who really cares about Armaghs media. Ban. They only people who are hurt are their own supporters all over the world and at home, the rest of us get on with our lives. I suppose the management reckon it is a great motivational issue, I doubt if the players need such. Celebrate your great run and let your fans enjoy it . The rest don't care.

They've lifted the ban. Their siege mentality strategy worked pretty well for them. I' m sure none of their fans complained once it got them to the last 6 and they'll be a good test for Donegal.

I agree fifty, this is just stupid behaviour and shows total disregard for supporters who want to read about their team etc. Grow up and play football and never mind media bans.

If you 'don't care' then why start a thread on the subject?

I made the above comments because Armagh have still a media ban in place. I really meant it is of less concern to other counties but spoils the enjoyment for their own supporters. The comment reflects on media bans in general. But if you want to make childish comments ...........

This has been by far our best season in 6 years. Trust me, nothing could spoil our fun right now (apart from Donegal). Realistically if there wasn't a media ban we would probably be hearing the normal clichés "one game at a time" etc etc. It doesn't bother me in the slightest.

I think all GAA managers should be duty bound to give interviews. It is the very least that their supporters deserve.

Haha sure its all mind games, nothing like a bit of siege mentality.
One way of looking at it... Jimmy McGuinness has often tried to pull that as well but now he has been upstaged a little by Armagh!
I think this silence is starting to un-nerve Donegal a little bit. They're not sure what to expect from this formidable Armagh outfit.

So you're speaking on behalf of Armagh supporters then? Many of us are fully behind the team management and the players who are at one on this. From the bandwagon reporting of how poor Martin Dunne was targeted, the castigation of Ciaran McKeever's role, the premeditated nature of Armagh's tactics and the personal attacks on Paul Grimley you'll find we as Armagh supporters couldn't give a rats arse whether we are in the newspapers or not. Let the footballers do their talking on the pitch.

If they don't want to talk so what? It's the media who blow this up as they have a problem filling inches. They're even getting mileage out of Armagh saying nothing. There's irony!

Why should they talk, they are not paid employees of the Co. Board or the GAA where they can be compelled to do media interviews & what are they gonna say anyway, what fantastic revelations are going to be revealed? Even the line-outs revealed are almost always intentionally incorrect. Most people don't really care what Managers or players say off the pitch & take it all with a pinch of salt anyway, it's what they do on the pitch that counts!

Thats exactly what they are doing! Whats talking to the media got to do with playing football?

Exactly Dundalkgael. Nothing at all to do with them playing. It looks like the ban was lifted and now it's not. But why a press conference in The Carrickdale and not in Armagh?

I'm backing the Armagh management and players on this.

Last season Joe Brolley slated Paul Grimley and Armagh, and at that stage Paul addressed the Issue via the media. Clearly this year they are just fed up, and decided to try a different route.

Fair play to them

Cant say I blame them. National media tend to give GAA in general and Ulster teams in particular a bad time. Good to see them stand up for themselves.

The Carrickdale and Armagh have a long association with each other. They sponsored the ladies football team, pretty sure the Armagh team of old used to have free use of its gym facilities. One stage of the homecoming of the 2002 team was held there. It is also pretty much right on the border, in Jonesborough, would be a local hotel for South Armagh people. A pretty logical place to hold it.

Dealing with the media is part and parcel of sport or haven't you noticed the back pages.

Carrickdale Hotel is Armagh owned - the McParland brothers sponsor the Down Football and Hurling teams ( as Canal Court), (the Down leagues and Championships in the past) Armagh Ladies team etc...

Did anyone see or hear the Sunday Game on Sunday evening - full of inaccuracies - the Mallon brothers - they are not brothers....

I listened to the Meath game on Newstalk and the commentator made the same mistake about the Mallons before he was corrected.
Also Colm Parkinson took off his headphones and was eavesdropping on a conversation McGeeney was having with a sub about to come on. Think McGeeney told him what he would do with his headphones! Sean Cavanagh asked could he not have got McGeeney in a headlock for an interview. Haha it'd take some man to do that :)
