Kilkenny V Limerick

Bennybunny-as you well know I only alluded to one example of cynical play in an otherwise impeccable performance. My whole point was that the airwaves and social network sites would be jammers had a Kk player done likewise. I'm sorry if this is too much for you to grasp.

Congrats to Kilkenny.Once again, when the game was in the melting pot, their street wiseness and unbreakable spirit and will to win,saw them winning another tight game.Limerick,no doubt, will take little,if any, solace in producing an immense performance. They really threw everything at Kilkenny.Hickey and McCarthy were excellent in full back line.Half back line fought hard until the death.Midfield did likewise.Hannon came of age.To score 5 points from play,in atrocious conditions, was a joy to watch.Limerick needed a goal though.Bar a few scares for Kilkenny this never seemed likely.Downes was a big disappointment. It never happened for him.Breen,Dowling and Mulcahy fought bravely, but there was so little space to work their magic.
I said in original post that if Limerick could quieten two of Richie Hogan,Colin Fennelly and TJ reid, they would be in a great chance to win.Unfortunately only TJ was well marshalled. The other two were instrumental in Kilkennys win.How Kilkewnny went in 2 points ahead at the break,is indicative of their greatness. The 1-2 scored just before the half time whistle was crucial. This pre - half time blitz has happened so often and must have a detremental mental effect on the opposition. To be fair to Limerick they came out for second half and dominated Kilkenny for twenty minutes or so.When they went 2 points clear, with Shefflin looking out of sorts,i thought it was going to be Limericks day.Kilkenny were on the ropes and needed a goal. And,as so often happens, when needed most, they were able to get the big score,to reassert their control of the game.Another example of their never say die spirit, which makes them so difficult to beat. They certainly are not firing on all cylinders this year.Pauraic Walsh,Eoin Larkin,Mark Kelly, all had poor games.Plenty of room for improvement.Lots to ponder for Cody. They are the greatest GAA team of all time.A privilege to be around to see them.I will be there on the 7th of September to see Shefflin win his 10th All Ireland.I cannot see any other outcome.

Limerick did well
But how will cats defence cope with Callahan bubbles Lar etc
I fear for their defence

The Limerick defence coped with them fairly well a few months back, I think Kilkenny will be able to block, hook and tackle them as well as they did brave Limerick today.

The better team lost today, sport is so flipn cruel at times ... only consolation is Id say Cork will beat Tipp and go on to give KK their just reward in the final - a hammering !!!!! Limerick were robbed

Iron maiden

I grasp exactly what you meant. When you should have been celebrating, you stuck the boot in. This was your first thought..at least that was your first post. Mightily unsporting. Then you cover your tracks with patronising remarks like " shannonsiders will be making speeches from the
Hogan stand"

I called you on it.

Congrats to Kilkenny, a truly class team. Today wasn't a final though and Tipp or Cork will give Kilkenny a huge game. If anything Tipp and Cork will take heart at how close Limerick came to beating Kilkenny.

Moly alone

Cork will not hammer Kilkenny in the final (in my opinion) anyway. Kilkenny deserved to win today in the sense that they took their goal chances. Had Limerick taken theirs they have won. Kilkenny will easily beat Tipp or Cork in the final I would say. Tipp have better backs than Cork and might hold them some bit.

Great game from 2 class teams. Not often I'd say this but Cody almost lost it for them. Took far too long to make changes. Kelly has been poor in his last 2 starts. Power and Walter will be back in the next day. Hurling lads, can't beat it!

Richie Power looked like he got Kilkenny's second goal. Eoin Larkin caught Power's hurl and knocked it out of his hands.

The flaker it was not a day for bringing on subs that's why it took Cody to bring on subs the rain was unreal it was falling straight down.
Limerick were the better team but did not have bench for 70 plus. the last 5 mins our forwards were tired.
Lim will learn from it we have to get out of 1b to win all ire
Tipp yee have to beat cork first and should not look past that game before saying yee will win liam

Ya o Grady should of got 2nd yellow and would made no difference to game at that stage
I think if kk got the pen he would of hit it over bar at that stage is outcome would be same

First of all well done Kilkenny. Absolutely gutted so I have no idea how the players are feeling. I know a few of the lads and they will be in tatters. Watching Seamus Hickey last night was very emotional, a tough beat for an outstanding hurler. We have players coming through that will add to this team, that is the only solace today. We will be back, we have an amazing support and our unbreakable desire for one may yield fruit in the next few years. Thanks for all the nice comments guys. One huge thing is even in defeat I think we buried last years ghost in particular Declan Hannon who in the last two games has shown his undoubted potential to be one of the best in the country. Best of luck to the remaining three teams.

I'm with bennybunny. A lot of talk about o Grady but in first half Delaney fouled dowling who was straight through for a one on one. A free 25 yards out n no yellow card for Delaney.

Both cunical n proffessional. Full back on yellow with 40 mins on clock in those conditio a wouldn't have hurt lk f forward line now would it?
