Kilkenny V Limerick

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Im amazed theres so much optimism here for a Limerick win. The general concensus around Kilkenny is that they will win comfortably to be honest and they are not worried about Limerick at all, despite what a few Kilkenny posters are saying on here. Cork are the only team people are wary of otherwise they regard it as a Handy all Ireland. With Limericks record for the last forty years and Tipps recent record bar 2010 who can blame them. Personally cant see anything other than a comfortable Kilkenny win and a Cork win in the semis

I doubt it will be a comfy win but I expect KK to win all the same

Goyourself ,

Just want to point out something. Tipp have beaten all the same teams Kilkenny have this year so you cant really make a comparison there that we beat a weak offaly team etc. Now I'm not saying Tipp are in the same mould as Kilkenny this year but we have racked up similar scores to them. While an aggressive team may beat Tipp in the physical stakes that alone does not win a game. Tipp wont beat Cork or win the AI but were not a soft touch either.

While Limerick beat Tipp in Thurles that was not a physical game as such Richie McCarthy just tied down Callinan but he still won a fair bit of ball and probably could have been more decisive with it than what he was. However you can only beat what's before you Kilkenny have been doing it for years they just dont care if its Tipp , Cork , Antrim or Offaly they will treat the opposition the same. I'm sure you will see this on Sunday from them.

Below are the margin of wins for both Tipp & KK which says we are just about on par with what KK are doing. Take Offaly out of the equation and Galway / Dublin Leinster finalist last year no matter how bad / knackered they were are quality opposition and will be for years to come.

KK 5-32 v Offaly 1-18 ( 26 points )
Tipp 5-25 Offaly 1-20 ( 17 points )

KK 3-19 v Galway 1-17 ( 9 points)
Tipp 3-25 v Galway 4-13 ( 9 points)

KK 0-24 v Dublin 1-09 ( 12 points)
Tipp 2-23 v Dublin 0-16 ( 13 points )

I also disagree with the poster who stated Kilkenny are expecting a handy win. Many KK people I know going to the game are expecting nothing less than a hard game.Limerick are a bit of an unknown quantity for Kilkenny given that lets say over the last 25 years they have only met 2 r 3 times perhaps in Championship hurling???So not a huge rivalry for Kilenny as Tipp , Cork , Galway , Dublin are in recent times but given the way Limerick are shaping up I would expect that to change and for these 2 to start meeting more regularly and a rivalry start to bloom. To be the best you gotta beat the best.

On Sunday know one knows what will happen.
But I think its going to be a great game
Kk might win by 10 pts
Lim might just have a mother of all games and just shade it
No one knows what will happen
I just hope the 2 teams show up on the day

Cracking game so far. Limerick are playing with great belief and intensity. Hope they can keep it going for the 70 minutes.

Limerick have played very well and Kilkenny have been medicore but are winning at HT and I'd expect Kilkenny to push on in the second half and win by about 8 points.I can't see Limerick being able to keep this up for the 70 minutes

Heartbreak for Limerick, gave it a mighty go, this team is young and exciting they'll be back and they have great days ahead of them. KK won it and saw the game out, they are a very impressive team, you have to admire the way they go about their business. Expect they'll kick on for another AI.

Limerick probably should of won the game. Kilkenny seemed to deal with the wet conditions better. How did the Limerick player not get a second yellow for using his hurl to deliberately trip Richie Power?

hard luck Limerick , you're some team , roy of the rovers stuff at times , heroic stuff from Dowling , Hannon , Browne , O'Mahony , McNamara , Hickey and McCarthy , theres only one way for this Limerick team and thats up , disappointed with Downes contribution once again , congrats Kilkenny

People will say kk deserved it today but it was kk that had that bit of luck that got them over the line.
That's why we love hurling. Unbelievable effort by both teams.
Special mention to Seamus hickey who had the best performance I've ever seen from a corner back

Dour from a scoring perspective but some intense viewing.limerick shud have probably won but kk shud ave had a penalty and a man advantage.

Looked like Limerick threw that game away. In fairness Kilkenny have some great warriors in their ranks and probably a bit of experience got them home. But I thought Limerick had some easy point chances yet kept going for goals. The delivery and handpassing was poor at times too although that was down to some great Kilkenny work ethic. You could say Limerick were the better team based on all the possession they had but they don't know how to win games like Kilkenny do.
