Dessie Mone All Star

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

This is the year Dessie finally gets the all star he deserves. Nominated three times, he is the heart beat of this monaghan team, no player in the country has got man of the match in 3 games in the championship and also the division 2 final it will be a travasty if he doesn't finally get one.

Great player no doubt and has some engine in him just links so much at the back for Monaghan when they are coming out with the ball.
Watching the game on the telly I couldn't help but think he would give Sean Cavanagh a run for his money in the cuteness department for a tough man he can go down easy enough and draw suspect fouls.IMO

Definetly, deserves it but will need Monaghan to get to a semi to be sure as there is a hell a lot of good number 5 around

Lets see how he gets on against the dubs before handing out awards!

DLlegends what are you on about "one swallow doesn't make a summer"! He has been consistently top drawer all year and in fact for the last two years, and probably our best player under O'Rourke. IMO he was MOTM in last year's Ulster final and unfortunate not to get an all-star but the competition in the HB line was very tough last year. Also a bit unlucky in 2007 too. His transformation from a niggly corner back into a top class wing-back has been great to see.

Unfortunately the reality is we most likely will lose next week, and all-stars for quarter-finalists can be hard to come sometimes by as there's alot of football played after that. Hopefully he and the rest of the team can put on a performance we can be proud of next week, and we'll see what happens.

Any quick look at All star statistics will show you that they are earned in September.
Look at the full foward picks for 12and13 Neither murphy or Brogan had their best campaigns but had MOM performances in the final.

Typical composition is 7 from AI winners - 4 from runners up - 2/3 from semi finalists plus 1/2 from quarter finalists.
Last year monaghan got 2 which was unusual - tyrone got one despite reaching semi final.

Basically if Mone is going to get an All star he probably needs to be Man of the Match v dublin or get to the AI final.

He's going to need to have a great game against Dublin if he is to get one. Like Lee Keegan, James Mc and Paul Murphy are all going to be in contention for that wing back spot. I would be interested to see how he does against Flynn or Connelly who are the two best wing forwards at the minute.

Dessie is second favourite to get an all star in the half back line after Lee Keegan

All Star's are a joke anyway................the player in the 5,6 10 or 11 jersey who has played well there will get shafted to accommadate a bigger name player in that place......happens every year........................

Dessie Mone would walk onto any team in the country he's class.........

Just can't stand posters from Donegal and Tyrone mouthing on here about him having to play well against Dublin to be in with a chance.....after him destroying Donegal last year, and this years league final, and running Tyrone into the ground back in june......

Give the man the respect he deserve's.......You's would be glad to have him.

Excellent player, if he delivers a performance next Saturday he stands a very good chance of landing one.

To be fair to the donegal poster, he's had more than one good summer, what if it was a donegal half back in the same postion, would you still think he does not deserve an all star ?

I agree that All Star selections can be somewhat bizzare and populist at times but I have yet to see an all star awarded for a performance in the previous years Ulster Final.
By your logic Gooch is a shoe-in given his performance v Dublin last year.

He will get a nomination. But, I think come the end of the championship he will have the following half backs in front of him

Keegan
McCarthy
McCaffery
Killian young
Anthony Thompson
Nicky Devereux

RUANUA

I agree. Midfielders will end up in the half forward line.

Dessie Mone could get one if the full back line.

Great player and I'm a huge fan of his, but unluckily for him the standard of wingbacks is brilliant right now. Keegan, McCarthy and Boyle are all top quality. I'd like to see him get an all star though.

Dont be such a smart arse ruanua..............You know right well what i mean,Dessie Mone is not been given the credit on here by Donegal,Tyrone and other posters.......You's know first hand what he can and has done to you's this year and in the past,Tyrone the same...........

ANYWAYS,DESSIE MONE DOESNT GIVE A HOOT ABOUT ALL STARS.........HE'S A TEAM PLAYER AND LEADER AND THE BEST HALF BACK IN THE COUNTRY.

We all dream of a team of Dessie Mones - A team of Dessie Moans ... Number One is Dessie Mone ...
You would better served writing him a fan letter .. and worry about All Stars in September. If he shuts out Alan Brogan fair play then think about it.
Mone is a very good player but he's no Karl Lacey

People questioning dessie's credentials! I wanna ask have you seen all of Monaghans championship games? If you have you will see why he doesnt need to get to a semi final to win one. He has done more than McManus or Walshe had to do to win an all star last year. 4 man of the match awards in his last 6 games, no other half back will get that! No there half back will even get man of the match awards
