Saw Donegal v Armagh in CP in 2003/2004/2006 and we lost on each occasion Now we have a chance to put that right but it could indeed be difficult. But I think we can win. It would be great to win and sit back and enjoy Monaghan shock Dublin. Still a good weekend for Ulster football and more of the same next weekend. It's quite possible Dublin might want to play in the Ulster championship next year after next Sat night.

We know Armagh will put it up to us but I doubt if the great kick passing they used to good effect will work against Donegal As for being organised you have to give it to the Armagh management taking a team that went to div 3 last spring to the last 8 (last 4 ???????) but there is also organisation in Donegal also and I would think if we overcome Armagh then I'd expect Donegal to be in tip top shape to face Monaghan again in the Semi final. ( opps I forget about Dublin ) thought they were already gone out of the championship.
Still Dublin with a bit of luck will have to face an Ulster team in the next two rounds so for all the talk about Ulster football over the last few weeks on here ( not as strong as it was ,, puke football. Etc) we will get a chance to see who is who ?? Is Dublin the best team in the land??
Hope we win Sat night and we can have two teams , minor, senior in the AI semi final.

This will be a tough game.
Armagh showed a lot of character having lost their lead they gathered themselves and then pushed on.
The number of different scorers they had was impressive. We were beaten 3 times in CP by Armagh in the noughties. Really don't want that feeling again.
The way both teams will set up early on it could be 0-0:0-0 at half time.

Armagh deserved to beat a poor Meath side, but if I'm honest Armagh v Donegal will be a horrible game to watch, that said Donegal should win handy enough

Why will it be a horrible game to watch? Did you see both games last night and formed your view based on an objective assessment. Or do you comment based on what you read on this forum or in 2 line tabloid headlines or a comment that was made on TV 11 years ago ?

What do you define as Armaghs current style ?

Of the four teams playing last night - Armagh played the most expansive football - Plenty width - good diagonal balls into inside forwards - strong forward runs from the half back line.
The second game was completly different. In fact Kildare adopted an even more negative approach than Monaghan. 13 behind the ball at most stages- sweeper system - and for kickouts the pitch may as well have been 20 yards in width. Only late in the game did either team even try to carry the ball within 30 yards of the sideline.

But hey if its easier to take the view that North=horrible and everyone else plays the beautiful game than actually understand what you are watching i guess it saves time.

We had a good side in the late 90s and early 00s but these boys always got in our way : 99 - R1 replay , 02- Ulster final , 03- all ire semi , 04- Ulster final , 05-first round replay , 06- Ulster final .
We were so close to making the final in 03 only for a late goal , Armagh were the thorn in our side . Since Jim took over , this is our first chance of revenge with them in championship . I'd love to hammer them !

Ah yeah lads , id agree. Ironically enough , if they beat us then I'd be cheering for them or Monaghan . Armagh fans and people are great , they just had a habit of putting frowns on us :)
Ulster all the way !

U forgot to include the game in cross 4 years ago. I think that like the monaghan game, mcguinness will not prepare for this one with revenge on his mind, it will be all about the performance on the day and preparing for the game on the way armagh are playing at the moment rather than the way they were playing 10 years ago. Revenge is not a word that we see motivating players any more, it is all almost forensic preparation. I hope it will be as good a game as it was last night. I am sure it will be a tough tactical battle.

Well I found it very difficult to watch Donegal v Monaghan, and at one stage yesterday,Armagh had 3 sweepers, just marking space! Yes they won and they are a better team, but they wouldn't have needed 3 sweepers to beat Meath! Shocking style of football.Having said that, they probably play a better style to most teams in Ulster.

Armagh.

One word which causes a shudder in most Donegal fans. They are not the force they were in the early part of the last decade but there are encouraging signs of improvement. I always felt that McGeeney wouldn't become involved there until he felt there was a realistic chance of success with a particular group of players. You can already see his influence. They are well conditioned, extremely fit and are beginning to play with a bit of a swagger which should be cause for concern for Jim McGuinness.

That said, I just feel that Donegal are that bit further down the road in terms of development. I would expect a tough, physical match which many will find unpalatable. But games are there for winning at this stage of the Championship, not for pleasing those on RTE. I take us to win by 4-5 points.

Ziggy - I found Meath's style of play disgusting in the 90s, prob the filthiest sides ever to grace football pitches , they were profoundly dangerous who systematically went out to hurt opponents ! Get over your loss and move on !

Armagh to cause an upset. Saw them give us a hiding in the Athletic grounds earlier this year. Knew they'd go far, very very physically imposing team with plenty of fitness, good midfield and a solid defence. Won't be one bit phased by Donegal. People forget they were injury ravaged last year and that they got a lot of good seasoned players back, Mallon, Vernon etc. They might just have the legs on Donegal you know.

Interesting game ahead.

You are proving my point. In a game Donegal v Armagh I support Donegal. In fact given a choice of Meath or Armagh I would prefer Meath. Donegal have played Meath 2/3 times in 30 odd years
(90&02) before that i dont recall so would have been a different challenge.

But my point was why do you think Armagh will contribute to a horrible match ? They scored 18 points last night in horrific conditions. Do you think their style if football is more negative than the tactics adopted by Kildare last nigt

Do you watch football or is your opnion simply North = Bad

Take your beating and focus on next year.

I think that there is a hop of a ball in the game next sat, armagh will not be easily beaten, and we will have to make absolutely everything count on the day.
