I found it very interesting that the report on stamping by a Leinster player was (a) a minor sports news item on the Six O clock news and (b) was not accompanied by any video of the incident. I the same incident happened at a GAA match it would feature and you can be sure rte would have a video of the incident and we would be treated to slow motion replays. Double standards.
Why would it have to be a major item in the news? The news shouldn't have to have a video of the incident why should it? You are only and can only assume an incident in a GAA game may have a video of incident included. No double standards

The 7.35 sport news on Morning Ireland last Monday.
"and finally in darts, Phil Taylor won the World Professional Darts Championship last night"
The mind boggles.
Why does your mind boggle about inclusion on that on the news? Is their not 000s who watch the darts final like that....

I would have thought it obvious Fabio - he relies on RTE for all his sporting news hence the belief Taylor won the darts, rugby is the country's biggest sport played exclusively by men of the highest moral standards, and that sometimes in summer a small number of rural people like to play the quaint, traditional games of hurling and football, usually ending in bloodbaths in fields with overgrown grass.

Unfair comment Soma. You disagree with Ormond and are entitled to. I disagree with him on a regular basis myself. Disagreeing with him doesn't entitle you to make unfair comment about Ormond. On another point I can't believe RTE made that mistake concerning the darts. That was embarrassing. Their radio bulletins in the morning are usually comprehensive and accurate.

Ah Gg its the end of the dreariest working week of the year, a tongue in cheek post is surely acceptable. In any case it was more a dig at RTE than the poster, but you are entitled to your views.

greengrass he attempted to defend rte despite a quite laughable mistake by them..its a blatant mistake by them...accept that it was instead of trying to show bias and act like they easily could have made that mistake which is what he was trying to claim

That is shocking from rte about the darts.
Just as bad as the Irish times saying Vincent's released Shane carty to play in o Byrne cup when iya a totally different player who was already in the panel and went on to say he was impressive in the match Haha clearly took report from an other source

Friday. 9pm. The RTE Sport website is carrying almost 2,000 words over 4 Pro 12 previews and has live updates of scores in the Connacht game. There are 33 games across 8 different competitions in hurling and football this weekend. Not a word.

Did they even report on Bryan Cullen retiring?
I watched TV3 news and they left it till last item after about 5 mins on rugby teams for Micky mouse games this weekend.
Could you imagine if a Heineken cup winning captain retired it would be main news these days and what excuse do tv3 have as they show neither Gaa or rugby.
They didn't even mention Gaa matches this weekend

The Rte could do more to reprt Gaa games lads, but when players and managers are openly treating these spring competitions with contempt I dont see why the media should spend too much time reporting on them.
Didnt Jim McGuinness once say he was glad that his team got relegated to div 2 of the league?
Connacht beat Munster in a Pro 12 game recently and they celebrated like they won the world cup. If galway won the league in hurling the players and manager etc., would be at pains to say things like, "sure itll mean nothing come Summertime" and "its only the league like".
I guarantee you that rugby will continue to beat the GAA in the battle for media attention so long as our counties only focus on the three or four games they play during the Summer.

bit one sided in your look on them comparisons.
the o byrne cup and so on are charity competitions for injured players
so its certainly about finding new players for most countys
dont agree with the the pro12 point as most games in that league
feature second strin sides or academy players and clear contempt is shown for it
as they use it to rest players for the european cup games.
the national league in the last 10 years has changed a lot from a competition where
managers tryed out players ore than show their hand
it now features probably 11 or 12 of the countys starting 15s each week
there has been a clear line between success in the league and championship
and mcguinness may have made that point but you know aswell as i do he
was trying to rally the troops and make them believe everything wasnt as bad as it seemed
but didnt they get a hiding by mayo a month or two later in the quarter finals of the all ireland.
rte and tv3 dont show english soccer matches yet always report on it first
when it comes to horse racing they always give a race from the uk as their clip on a saturday
and ignore the racing here in ireland, their no excuse for making a shambles of the darts report
and when the gaa is the biggest sport in the country
then the national brodacster has an onus to brodacst what the people choose
and they are not doing this as why would gaa be the biggest if people had minimal interest in it?

Joncarter RTE always report on the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League - if you want to see an example of competitions treated with contempt by managers and players you need look no further than them games. Most teams rarely pick a single regular starting player in the English league cup, and managers often speak about it and the Europa League being a nuisance that they are happy to be out of. If over 8000 people are going to a game in Ireland then surely RTE are obliged to preview it and report on it, rather than waiting for a negative news story before giving it attention.

It is true that the FA and league cups are not a priority for English teams but I believe that an FA cup medal would mean a lot more to a soccer player than a league medal would mean to a GAA player.
I stand by original point. If the teams and managers involved arent bothered about the league I dont see why the media should be.
If we started taking these competitions more seriously (and I believe that would involve a restructuring of them) then the media might follow suit.
